Well, it works because they're both 68xx series. And it's not really relevant since i ditched it.It just isn't worth it.

... get double the framerate while in this it seems like it kind of want to double it but fails. since my fps on ultra settings is around 40 and with crossfire the highest i saw was like 59 for like a second. Quite a lot of stuttering as well.

Did you change anything at the game's video configuration?
And did you try resetting the settings completely by erasing the actual configuration file? If you have only one configuration profile, it's Default.System.Config.Gbx or similar.

I recently got my hands on a radeon hd 6850. So i have a 6870 + 6850 Crossfire now and it works great on like let's say Dirt 3 and Battlefield 3 and some other games. But in trackmania 2 it runs worse with cf than with one card.
