First look on Boxes

Many will ask: What is Boxes? Well, that is easy to explain; do you remember Simplex? To cut a long story short, Boxes is the successor of Simplex which was a CMS for Manialinks. It is completely recoded and redesigned and you will find out more in this post.

What is the basic idea behind Boxes?

The key-idea is to keep the system as user-friendly as possible, which includes functionality both in Trackmania I and Trackmania II. The system bases on so-called Boxes, which display the content on your Manialink wether it is a Shoutbox-Box or a News-Box. So, all "normal" elements or even unusal elements like a TicTacToe-Game (Thanks to Seeba!) can be shown by creating Instances from the specific Box.

Is there ONE design or can I choose my own?

Additionally, the concept of designs is not like in existing systems, because Boxes offers styles for the boxes. They are added to the existing styles and form a bowl of styles from which you can select one for your Manialink. So, there is not ONE design, but you can combine styles from different designs. On the one hand this feature offers you a huge selection in design variations and on the other hand there is still enough space for your own creativitiy.

What is special in boxes?

Well, that is simple to say, everyone who read until here has already noticed the different concept of managing manialinks compared to an existing CMS. However, there are still more special features to be discovered in Boxes and one feature for example is that you can position your Instances freely on your Manialink without changing something in the files or the adminpanel.

Finally, this should be enough for the moment, as some features are still not finished. We will keep you informed in this thread and check also our TM-Tube canal (http://www.tm-tube.com/user/boxes).
Stay tuned,
Zocka and Blade

If there are any questions left, just ask.

Looks nice.

A few question:
  • Is it a desktop application ? A web one ?
  • In what language this application is written in ?
  • Is it planned to be open source ?

As Manialinks are ingame websites it is a web one you will need a webspace with php 5.3 and a mysql server.
Written is it in PHP.
And as php doesnt knowan crypting methods yes it will be open source maybe with a little sum of planets going to us two because we invest much time in this project but this point is not fixed we will see on the release how we do it.

I hope this answeres your questions.

I just watched the video and it looks incredible. So pretty much it allows you to create a ManiaLink without any knowledge of code?

Moved into the ManiaScript forum. Don't be fooled by the name. It should be a general purpose ManiaScript and Manialink forum. Cerovan will change it. ;)

Yes that is the point :), but with a bit knowledge of manialink coding you then can create own styles to make your Manialink something special. Otherways you have to use the ones we offer to you. We will try to get as much different ones as we can.
