[Buddies] Chatting Outside of Servers

Post by banjee »

I was just thinking, how many time have you had a buddy that is connect to the game and you can see that it says connected but you cannot chat with them unless you wait on the home screen until they join a server (which may never happen), because they could be building a track or out in lala land. What if there was a special chat that was between buddies only? Then you could tell your friend while he was building to come play on a server with you and get all your buddies to join the same server and stuff.... I am not pushing for game-wide chat rooms which would degrade into simple spam boxes with "JOIN MY SERVER" and "NO, JOIN MY SERVER" and "TRY MY TRACKS". just simple buddy to buddy chat.

I would like this idea. Then a friend list would make much more sense!

Yeah I would recommend this idea, too.
Like on battle.net you have a buddy to buddy chat as well as chat channels and group chats.
I really hope Nadeo has implemented such a great chat into their maniaplanet system, as it should be a "mixture of facebook, youtube and battle.net" (gamestar)

battle.net is awful.

But I liked the idea of a new way to communicate across servers =)

This would really a nice feature. Maybe something like grouping your friends and then select groups to write to or select a single player.

It isn't so bad yet :)
And they are working on another version (battle.net V2) for DIII and SC2.

Indeed, it's not that bad. The chats are working great and the matchmaking system is good as well. The only problem is the patching. Blizzard needs soo long to for a patch and after that the gameservers are often down (as currently :( )
@tcq: I think it's already the battle.net V2, as sc2 is already running and it's much more than in previous blizzard-games.

Maybe Nadeo also adds a voicechat to their system?
But if they do, I hope it will work well, as I know other examples, where it didn't :?

Voice chat would be a must on SM, though, to coordinate tactics, methinks...however, to not stray too far off-topic, in the world of TM2, I think simply an out-of-game chat system would be very beneficial to the community, and I would even go so far as to say that it could be just a general chatroom--I think the TM community, as a whole, is generally more mature than say, CoD's online community. Not to say there aren't spammers or griefers here as well, but the community is much better about policing itself here, I think.

I hope they will introduce something like this... looking to the whole maniaplanet project it is almost a "must have" :)
