Custom car, pack and locator

Post by rat_in_car »

This will not be simply question "how to made my own car" or "how can I made locator". I have everything, custom car packed in Gbx pack, located on my own server and people see my car ingame so everything seems to be ok. BUT only when i have p2p up/down enabled. So, what is the point to make locator for car if still that small file with info about URL must be upload directly from my computer? If people see my profile while playing (nick, pack name, comment) then they should have possibility to download my car directly from server using only locator info without direct p2p connection for download that locator. Packs should have locators placed in player page or game should send a little more info about players (horns, cars, avatars - if they're located) and not only car position etc. It's only few bytes of data, isn't?

I think the Suggestions section would be better for this topic.

Edit: I'm for it!

Ok, that's great. I expect answer to my suggestion instead of talking about proper place to move suggestion, but good start anyway.

I'm sure people familiar with locators system and how game works will understand my post.

But... I'll try to explain how locators works:

1. In maps (signs, music, sounds, pictures)
Map is loaded with full info about locators (direct links to files on some server/website), then game download that files from servers. Loaded map is all you need to see everything, because all data is receiving the same way like in www browser (incoming fast transfer).

2. In profile (horns, cars, packs etc)
If you enter some server, players known your nick and only basic stuff. But if they want to see your car, you both (receiver and sender) must enable p2p in game config, then open ports on router etc. Even if you locate your car, horn and avatar on some server, that informations are not stored in your profile. Other players can download your car or horn from fileserver (website) if you made locator, but first... they must download that locator. :) And locator is only on your disk, so again - p2p is needed even for located resources.

How much better will be if, for example, in player page I'll can write all urls for my car, horn, avatar etc. In that case the only info that other players need is my nick, rest will be downloaded from Nadeo server (basic informations), then from my own web hosting (main files).

Is this clear now?

Clear now thanks, good idea.

Apart from the responcibility is now Nadeo - they may not like that (and associated problems).
