[1.0] Direct players to our servers, rather than the UBI

Post by MrA »

MrA wrote: 3) Let admins add their own server to Nadeo provided matchmaking / server joining
ie... let us set AutoMatch=1 in our matchsettings files so players get sent to our servers instead of the empty UBI ones

4) Hide all the empty ubisoft servers, or just spawn when required
With the point 3 above, they wont be required.

I have an answer and I don't want to start a new discussion here.

Though I doubt that he meant that it should be put in this forum, as it isn't a bug.
I'll let magnetik decide where to move the topic to...

First: I have no idea of where this post belongs :D

I'm not sure to understand what you mean MrA: what "empty servers" are you talking about? Beginners servers? Matchmaking?

About MatchMaking: anyone can start a matchmaking server by using the ManiaLive plugin (https://github.com/maniaplanet/matchmaking-lobby). I've seen that MPAseco developers are doing their own too.

I was thinking of both systems, beginners & matchmaking, as they are similar.

For matchmaking, when you say anyone can start one, do you mean that anyone can become part of the existing quorum of servers? Or that rather, we must start our own lobby and then add our own servers? As having to make your own lobby is not a practical solution for someone with just 1 or 2 servers, and also I'm not sure shootmania would benefit from lots and lots of lobbies.... (contrary in fact, lobbies should be few, and servers should be many?)

My idea would be for admins to be able to include their servers into a large public lobby which players can then get distributed to. Perhaps theme the lobbies for a major mode like Elite, such as Official Maps Lobby, and Open Lobby.

The result of this is that we do not need the UBI servers, which are all the same and not so interesting.
