Little hello to Maniaplanet

Post by Hylis »

Hello,

I have nothing to reveal at the moment, we are working on it, but I wished to talk to you a little about what is happening at the moment. So, here is a little hello to the big Maniaplanet.

Thanks to the recent releases of the open betas and Steam, we have quickly reached half a million registrations on Maniaplanet. So, we are really happy to see that all three current titles are now live with much more players online. And I am quite satisfied for the players who waited this start to happen. Some players are there since years and just wish to see a lot of activities around.

But now, we will have to make this even bigger. We want to communicate a lot on the game, we want to improve it and we hope to see players create crazy cool stuff for it as well. The more there are players, the more Maniaplanet becomes interesting.

As examples, and for people who missed it, here are two examples of videos made by players about new Trackmania² Canyon blocks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPcocVVDgjE

For Trackmania² Stadium, there are still things to be defined for the release, like the free content. We have to find the right balance between free and paying parts. Like some of you were aware, the former ones where supported by advertising or selling of United. We believe in the added value of Maniaplanet and that we can find a right balance between a free Stadium and a paying Stadium, as simple as that and with a price that is efficient for you and for us, thanks to online distribution.

For ShootMania Storm, new features are being done at the moment. From experts to wide audience, we look to make it played everywhere and for everyone. We have a big things to do, and I wish we will be able to do them all. First one is about finishing matchmaking and team ranking systems. It is the most expert one. But we will also work on upcoming features for the players who will come in Shootmania for other reasons than competition.

Some people say that Trackmania is a racing game instead of a car game, and I think that Shootmania is a FPS instead of a gun game. It widens the target audience, our ability to make gameplay decisions and the options to open to user generated content.

While we wait of the upcoming cool stuff, let's do the party and go crazy. So, I would like to invite some map makers to make crazy and simple maps. If you do, name the server here and we will have some good time online!

Here is an example of my own "work" (5 minutes to do ^_^)
http://files.maniaplanet.com/maps/Alaco ... 04.Map.Gbx

Do not blame me too much, you know A08 concept is one of the oldest internally, back to 2003. Some people name these maps, the LOL maps. LOL is very popular, and so should Trackmania and Shootmania.

There is no prize for the best LOL maps, but the ability to be recognized as the most crazy creators with 0/10 awards :0010

See you online and have fun

Is your map a 1 vs 1 map, TA ? (A8 in SM) :D because i cant play it, he just stand still, guess i am waiting for another player  "OFFLINE" ?
Is it maps only for shootmania ? I dont have a server, can we post our tracks here, or what do you mean ?

I recently made a map for canyon, its a bit crazy  http://tm.mania-exchange.com/s/tr/30903

some other improvment..
About the translation it could be alot better in all language if you show us a pictures of the translated content areas. And i Notice that we translate the same sentence over and over again  , that is a bit unnecessary imo.

any many complain about the camera 2 in stadium 2 - FYI: i don´t use cam 2 :pil

If i could recommend 1 map that can be called "crazy" it surely will be this map:
http://tm.mania-exchange.com/tracks/29233/district-25
It has 341 checkpoints, 7451 blocks and is made by 25 trackbuilders.
The fastest time so far is 45 minutes and 53 seconds :D
Nothing can be more crazy then to drive this track which is in my mind a real tribute to Canyon by the community.
A track made by Elystix, BushMonkey, Phil, Eyebo, Osaka, chuckie, Tuta, Haenry, RachoVolker, Mandark, md, Kent, Space, Adsun, Alteran, Alteran, Behi, cxomtdoh, cuba, ddbb, Blubber, sho0ta, basbaas, siem, Superal and Hans Holo.

Salu Hylis!

Being quite sick at the moment, but if I will be fine by the weekend and if sprint cooperates fast enough, the Stadium A08 1k Project should be out by the end of next week. As in, it will bring quite a big storm of new users. Last 1k Project got almost 90k views so far. With the right advertising, it can get better.

I answer to this and wanted to give some ideas to maybe improve, and increase the sale maybe ?
Offtopic... hmmm

You know, for Storm, I would suggest closing the unplayed modes and save them for some future release / events , modes like Heroes and Realm are two of the most impressive, but they are ignored. In Six months time one of those modes can make a big splash, but as things are, these modes look set to miss the attention they deserve.

Personally I can not find time to explore so many modes as there is at the moment, I am restricting myself to Elite and Battle, with passing interest in Royal & Melee (Melee is also under used but its simplicity probably makes it essential that it exists). Joust apprently has some interest from players, and I like its idea, but again, time limits me.

Saying that, Melee is just Royal with no mist, its less interesting than Royal, its not free, for that reason it will never have so many players, paying players are not likely to 'downgrade' to Melee from Royal, rather they should advance to Battle or other more progressive modes, so maybe, despite it being the obvious mode to make, it is in fact, useless.

Overall, the number of modes feels too big and confusing :?
