I would say buy both ;) But TM2 is a bit more "noob" Friendly, it is not as hard as all enviroments in TMU. And League activity is nothing for people who just wanna start with TM. Both are games to waste alot of your life with. :D
But TM2 is the new thing, got actual graphics(wich are aren´t that useless to racing games on PC) and should be considered first for Beginners. If you want more you still can get TMUF...... later ;)

Are you kidding!?

Those envis are the history of trackmania! They are the ones who make the game! Dude I can't believe you said that, they are so great and unique! I hate those people who thinks "TRACKMANIA IZ STADIUM NOTHIN ESLE LOLOLOL" Seriously, Stadium is the worse envi in my opinion, the others are the good one

 I suggest you buy both. I've played since TM Original and still play that along with TMUF and now TM2 of course. I play all enviro's because each is still challenging and fun, and authors are still building tracks/ maps for each type.

:3 Variety is the key with Trackmania, not only in the range of enviro's but in the (almost) unlimited creativity of track/ map builders. Having made only three (really pathetic) tracks in my time, I marvel at the skill and dedication of people who keep putting their stuff out for the rest of us to enjoy.

 Stadium continues to be the most popular, as it was quickly snatched by the community, clans formed all over the world and got to know each other ' <3 ' through forum sites and scrims, thousands of players got into track-making, Xymph held the scoring system together and heaps of other coders helped to add new functions to meet player demand. It was / is addictive and I've always believed that all Member States' representatives on the UN Security Council should be forced to play it every weekend. Yet Stadium is not the only excellent format NADEO has created - they're all great fun!

Whichever version you decide to buy, you will be joining a still-growing community of players whose opinions are valued by the creator Florent and his team of game-playing genies, something which I've never seen from any other gaming software company! :1010

:pil .... My 5 cents worth - Cheers :)

Hi all, I'm in a similar situation to the OP, trying to decide between TMUF and TM2. Any help would be appreciated. I played TMN a couple of years ago and loved it, and I recently went back to it, and now I'd like to get a new TM game.

So, it seems that TM2 has better graphics, more support going forward and from the videos I've seen of it online, it looks really fun (including the different handling!).

TMUF seems to have more features, content and variety though.

Which one is more active with multiplayer? As in, if I want to play multiplayer in TM2 or TMUF, will they both have at least couple of servers with a decent amount of players? (Note: I live in Australia, so my timezone is crazy)

Also, I'm a bit worried that if I bought TMUF, I'd be jumping in too late. I mean, TM2 is going to get all the support going forward, so TMUF is just going to slowly decline right? And is it really worth spending the $30 on steam to upgrade to United from Nations? Especially when TM2 is $5 cheaper?

Or should I just forget everything and wait a while to see what Nadeo does, how they support TM2 and what the environments are like?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I keep changing my mind about which game to buy lol! :D

People are... divided... over whether Canyon is fun. Personally I like the handling a lot, and the "realisticness" of it makes it even more of a counterpoint to the trademark insane tracks of Trackmania. Maybe I just like irony. The feeling of speed is twice as strong as any of the TMUF environments even though the car only really goes half as fast as Stadium.
One common argument is that the handling doesn't feel enough like Stadium -- I don't really care whether or not it's "stadium-like" and from your post it seems you wouldn't either.

TMUF still has plenty of activity, although it has declined somewhat since the release of Canyon; I expect it to decline more as TM2 gets more environments, the main reason a lot of us still play TMU is because of that diversity which TM2 doesn't have yet. I think Canyon has more players but the difference isn't that big. It can be hard to find someone to play against in either game at certain times of the day -- since the vast majority of the playerbase is in Europe, it can get kind of annoying for someone who lives in the middle of Canada -- but I see plenty of Australians in both games at the times when the European traffic is at its peak; no I'm not doing the math but I don't think there's so much of an issue for your location.

I'm not going to tell you which one to buy, hopefully this is enough information for you to make an informed decision. If not, tell me what info is missing and I'll try to fix that ;) .

Thanks for the response, your info is very useful :D And yeah, I don't mind if it's quite different to stadium, since I have TMN for that!

Also, is there much content for TM2? I know there isn't as much as United, but with multiplayer and all the custom tracks created, as well as the built-in stuff, there's a decent amount of stuff to do, right? Worth the $25?

If there's a decent amount of stuff to do in Canyon, I'll probably buy that, since you cleared up my question about multiplayer activity

I've played Canyon nearly every day since I bought it. In many ways I think it is a much better game and it is still growing. Many people that don't like Canyon have only played the Stadium environment from Nations (which was free) and don't really realize that Every environment in Trackmania has not only different graphics and themes but also very different physics. Thus, Canyon feels very different to them they don't like that. Like any game though, if you play it a bit you get use to the style and it is a very fun game to play.

I prefer the environment of TM2 better as it feels more real and natural where the Stadium felt generic and boring. Also like the driving in TM2 better because drifting is mega fun and it just feels like it has physics behind it. TM2 also has damage, it's limited but still something and I never saw that in the first.

Only problem is with 2 is there is hardly any one playing and the menus/UI is still a cluttered mess and it is broke with SLI.
