I already know the basics.
Hit the breaks before turning. turn out then in ECT ECT ECT.
Whenever I slide I seem to no control over my car.
Can you find a good guide?
I also use a game pad.

I would suggest you to join a server and to ask for a driving lesson. I'm sure that many players will be happy to give you some tips

You are more then welcome to join our server (Smurfen.net in the Netherlands) and ask any question you have.
If you come between 19.00 CEST and 21.00 CEST you have the most change to find players on our server. On our server it is also not a problem to use the specmode (press tab and rightclick with your mouse on the player you want to watch, then press on the camera in the right-corner below into follow) to see other drivers and watch how they handle their cars.
This can be very handy in finding your way in difficult maps and see where you have to drift or not, and where you have to brake or not.
But I am also sure most players on other servers will help you as well with your questions. In our experience most drivers get a grip on driving in canyon in about a week or 2 weeks.
Good luck!!

With the canyon car, it wil start sliding when you just turn a little bit too hard. no need for breaks or "turn out, then in" ( whatever that means ).Fastlex_BL wrote:I already know the basics.

You could also learn from watching youtube clips of good drivers, or you can just practice more

To start you off, here is one video madce by Riolu : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_IwhMFDnek

"turn out, then in" ( whatever that means ).
It's the old Scandinavian Flick (according to the TopGear guys)
For the car to slide though there are really numerous ways. Depends on the track a bit too i guess. Some have turns with some kind of jump-slide, others have turns where you turn in and tab the break shortly to get the car to slide for example. Important is to keep the car as close to the inside boarding as you can/dare.
As we are talikng about "turn out then in" like you would in a decent sim-racer, in TM2 Canyon that might not always be the fastest way.

Re: New to TM2 Canyon teach me how to slide.
Getting the car to start drifting is extremely easy, as you probably have found out already.
Controlling the drift will take a little more time.
And the hardest part is exiting the drift. My advice is to not touch the steering at all the moment the car is returning to full grip, lest it should go off in the opposite direction quite unexpectedly (though not randomly. In fact this is something that can be used to your advantage later). As soon as you attain full grip again, continue steering. All this can happens within milliseconds of course.
In spite of the fact that it feels really good to drift in Canyon, there are actually a lot of scenarios where not drifting will get you a much better time. Learning the tolerances of the car, the angle the car can turn without drifting at different speeds, etc. will all take time and practice. Drive lots of tracks and lots of styles of tracks. One of the best ways to learn is to watch replays or spectate some of the best drivers online. You can learn their driving lines and pick up some of their techniques, even if you can't see which buttons/keys they're pressing.

Re: New to TM2 Canyon teach me how to slide.
Those are some good ideas.
My suggestion, if you really want to get good at drifting is to go into the editor and make a large flat concrete area and place a few items on it like those big storage tanks or something then go into test mode and drift around for a while. It's really quite fun once you get use to it. Making a big open drift arena is a good way to get a feel for it without hitting stuff all the time.

Re: New to TM2 Canyon teach me how to slide.
I'm getting the hang of it.
but in what situations should I slide?

Re: New to TM2 Canyon teach me how to slide.
Generally, if you can't take a turn fullspeed (no letting off gas) without drifting, then drift instead. There are some exceptions, but that's a good rule of thumb.
