TStar has also made a page showing all of the file locations as well
Hey, is this the HD version? If not, I can upload the HD version in a few minutes...all the default .dds files...

someone knows witch saving method to use with gimp?
i can save it as DXT5 but i don't see the option to save it with ARGB 8bb and Interpolated Alpha.
now matter what i'm trying the skin keeps refelcting to heavy.

Let me refer you to my post here, and I recommend you read the end of the previous page as well, for there are links for more advanced alpha work if you know what you're doing...

I know this is probably a common question, but is there a "complete idiot's guide to doing not so bad"? I've fiddled around with it, but I'm not confident enough to try and save it much less import it. Quite frankly, I haven't a clue what I'm doing, even if I've got a design in mind.

You're talking about GIMP, right? My suggestion? And I think I can actually speak here, considering I'm the aforementioned "complete idiot" ;) Pick a skin (or set of skins) somewhere online, or from another racing game, and try to duplicate it as closely as possible, but as simply as possible (no fancy shading or anything like that). Here's the guide that I used here, and while yes, it does use Photoshop, a lot of the basics are the same, and if there are any problems, I'll be more than happy to help you. :)
