I think he's talking about how the vegetation always faces the camera, just like the trees in Super Mario 64.
Billboarding is when a 2D sprite always faces the camera in a 3D world.

TM2 uses a different version of 3d models than TMF. Importing models into TM2 require the .3ds files and textures with NadeoImporter.exe.
In other words, you can only use models specially made for TM2.

I don't have the game so I can't try this, but there was something posted on CP that said this: New Illum It seems to work with different alpha colors to generate different types of light (headlights, brake...). So it's a : -126 grey* for headlight (others values possible ?), -and 0->36 black for br...

Maybe they should give us a 3D car template with all the basic parts to make the damage work, because what we're used to is one object for skin, one object for details, one object for glass, etc. and not any separate parts for the bumpers and such if it worked that way.
