Unfortunately it's not possible, but you can hide opponent's names by pressing D-Pad UP.

Pro tips: while you accelerate with X, you can break by using A. It's more difficult the other way around. It's not, it depends on the way you're used to play. I find it easier and more natural to hold A and keep the tip of my thumb above X to use it when needed than doing the opposite. And no need...

Yes but that's an option who costs nothing to add. You may say there will be bad maps using it. I remember that in TMO and TMS demos there was display cost limit, that increased as many medals you have earned in the campaign. It would be cool to have something like this in Turbo.
