I agree. I usually play TrackMania with the graphics all the way up, and I get a nice 50FPS on it. ShootMania gives about 2-5 FPS, even when I lower the graphics settings all the way down (even the resolution). I also get sound issues for ShootMania, where it completely mutes my audio on my computer...

I do agree. I am up to C02, and I've easily gotten a gold time on every track so far. I have not gotten any Author Times though, so that may be a good challenge to get. However, I do agree that the gold medals are a lot easier than before. Maybe it's because the environment is a lot easier.
