Hi there,
Ive been wondering how we could improve the spectating aspect of this game. Its maybe not a priority, but we surely need more spectators on streams. I dont think this is a priority, but I do think it cant be ignored.
I would like to invite everyone to post your ideas here on how spectating can be improved.
My ideas:
Sounds:
- Double Kill
- Tripple Kill
-Tripple Tapped
- Perfect
- Match Point
-Game Over
Xray-vision ( like CSGO ): See defenders through walls - toggle
More visual feedback :
- animated/cooler +0 & +1
- animated armor counter
- animated defender counter
3rd person option. Ive never seen this in streams.
Better free movement of the camera.

This is epic.
Place custom cameras in the map which u can toggle to easily.
Make avatars show please. Some avatars dont load and the scoreboard looks very bad. It makes this game look bad & unfinished.
Also Elite has a lot of repetition. 80% of the teams use the same strats and a lot of teams always play the same maps ( Rust & Spitfire ). I really believe Elite needs another mechanic combined with new blocks & some more decorations to really become a good game which is fun to watch.
Im sure the new mappack & update will already solve some of my issues, but I really think the game should have a better look & feel ( ingame )
Request : Show more defenders during streams. Currently its 100% attacker. I would love to see how defenders play and learn from it.

Allready started something like this for Attackers when players are Spectating them.
Its forced spectator but still you can switch between different players.
However its still in a beginning phase of coding and needs to be worked around better.
Its made for relay servers aswell but those are broken.

Re: How can we improve the spectating experience
See through wall and watching members of the other team would open the possibility to cheat via teamspeak/skype
Re: How can we improve the spectating experience
Well ofc I was talking about viewers of a stream. Streams are usualy delayed with 90seconds so there really is no cheat.niku wrote:See through wall and watching members of the other team would open the possibility to cheat via teamspeak/skype
Players in a team will be able to spec their own team in 1st person. Again ,this is no cheat.
So thank you for your feedback, but I dont think you thought things through
haha
Yeah something like this can be cool too. Looks very promising!w1lla wrote:https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ntl99b6kqo65 ... Shot19.jpg

However I think that basic features should be developed by NADEO and not by the community
Willa also make sure this spectating-'tool' fits the design of the game please.
Let me know when its finished^^

Re: How can we improve the spectating experience
Wasnt sure at the beginning if you meant only stream viewers or ingame teammates aswell, cause the were ( CSS e.g.) Servers in other FPS were this was possible. Also i didnt know about the 90 sec delay.
Just wanted to add something i was worried about to make sure it will never happen
I fully agree with the things you said in your first post exept maybe with the repetition thing

If teams allow spectators then there is no delay. Spectators can see évérything. This is not a cheat, but ofc they could be ghosting. But its up to the team to decide to allow spectators and they know the "risks".
Streamers are allowed on servers ( who doesnt love to be streamed ) and they stream with delay. So here is no problem whatsoever.
In public matches there can be spectators too. What they are allowed to see or not should be in settings somewhere. So here's no problem either.
This is generally how it works and Im sure NADEO knows this. Actually they already have all this in the game. This thread is mostly about improving the spectating experience. If its fun to watch the viewers will be "tricked" into buying this game. Thats my goal with this post^^ I also spectate a lot myself.

always thought something like this would be cool

it could be some sort of spectator only "stream-mode". in elite theres often not much going on from the attackers point of view and it would be useful and more entertaining to see what all 3 defs are doing. after a defender dies the windows could shift and disappear till when its a 1v1 it looks like a split-screen. could be some stats on the side and stuff, rockets, rails, rail hit percentage etc.
also having sounds like "double kill" or even the possibility to set your own (can be just client-side) would be a nice touch i agree

Unfortunately, in ManiaPlanet, you can't have multiple cams. It's impossible. Unless Nadeo adds a new feature to allow it.
