Improve blocks & gameplay/movement - Post Suggestions

Post by novationx » 15 Dec 2014, 15:59

ABOUT?:
Here you can see blocks that should be fixed/editted/improved so that the movement in-game becomes better eventho its already awesome as it is. 8-)

WHAT I WOULD LIKE YOU TO DO:
1. Let us know what you think
2. If you see something where movement/blocks should be better, then post a screenshot.
3. Ideas for blocks? Want a new block? Post it here.

ADVANTAGES/OBJECTIF:
1. More consistency between blocks
2. More general flow in your moves ( like Jagger )
3. Easier to understand for new players
4. More movement possiblities offering more freedom to the player
5. More bugfree
6. More logical

ARGUEMENTS/SCREENSHOTS:

BORDERS
http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef2 ... orders.JPG
1. Almost impossible to walljump

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef3 ... orders.JPG
2. Almost impossible to walljump.

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef3 ... creen3.JPG
3. Walljumping in this area on this block is simply not possible.

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef3 ... creen4.JPG
4. Walljumping in this area on this block is simply not possible.

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef3 ... creen5.JPG
5. Walljumping in this area on this block is simply not possible.

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef3 ... creen7.JPG
6. Remove this please.

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef3 ... creen8.JPG
7. Walljumping on this block is unfortunately impossible.

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef4 ... reen13.JPG
8. Why is this there?

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef4 ... reen15.JPG
9. This move is harder than it should be.

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef6 ... reen22.JPG
10. No walljump possible here, because of the borders.

http://www.hitbox.tv/video/389435
11. Video of how you can stand on a wooden border, but not on the other. Illogical & inconsistent.

GRASS BANK
http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef5 ... reen21.JPG
1. Surfing on this block is still possible.

PILLARS
http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef6 ... reen23.JPG
1. The 4 sides of pillars dont have the same feel. The backside is harder to walljump on.
This is applicable to other pillars too.

TELEPORTS
More information about the teleports: here

http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3837 ... 8u_jpg.htm
1. Remove Teleport sides. (by Livert)

HEALTHPADS
http://up.picr.de/20407550jr.jpg
1. High jump on the edge of this block is possible. This makes some maps glitchable. (by HubbleSM)

GRASS
http://i.imgur.com/S3zwpeg.jpg
1. Why do so many blocks on grass come with soapy stones? It's impossible to move on that stuff. You might just lose a ton of speed or you just start Tokyo Drifting all over the place without control. As a mapper i need to be able to give players control over their actions, especially in important locations. (by Urinstein)

BRIDGES
http://i.imgur.com/MTyrD3E.jpg
1. Every bridge piece has these woods thingies. Sometimes they are useful, sometimes they are definitely not.

STAIRS
http://i.imgur.com/gnvKunG.jpg
1. Please remove those pots without fire. (by Urinstein)

CASTLE BLOCKS
http://i.imgur.com/pmKxG6o.jpg
1. Why are the castle walls not square? They are wider on one side than on the other.
When you don't build them in a certain direction they have these nasty bumps, where you cannot walljump from. (by Urinstein)

ARCHES
http://i.imgur.com/bZUCUqI.jpg
1. On one side they always have those pieces of wood, on the other they don't. You can turn it around and have them on the side you prefer, but what if you want them on both sides, or none? (by Urinstein)

JUMPPADS
http://i.imgur.com/ig6Tjyy.jpg
1. Jumppads could use improvements such as:
- Remove pit in the front ( and maybe extend the jumpable area )
- Remove metal balls at the sides
( - you cant take a jumppad from every direction )
(by Urinstein)

POWERBLOCKS
http://i.imgur.com/nleaoGL.jpg
1. Why do powerblocks have different dimensions than the castle bocks? When you slide along the castle block and then get to the power block, you get bumped away. (by Urinstein)

NOT WALLJUMPABLE WALLS
http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef4 ... reen16.JPG
1. You cant walljump on this block.

VISUALS
http://i.imgur.com/QsxCVHn.jpg
1. Tigers/panters dont really fit the style this game usualy offers and maybe they are also 'in the way' when moving.

INCONSISTENCIES
1.
http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef5 ... reen18.JPG
Here you CAN stand on the wooden border. ( look at next screenshot )

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef5 ... reen17.JPG
Here you CANT stand on the wooden border. ( look at previous screenshot )

2.
http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef4 ... reen11.JPG
Here you CAN stand. ( look at next screenshot )

http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef4 ... reen12.JPG
Here you CANT stand. ( look at previous screenshot )

GOOD EXAMPLE OF BORDERS
Image
Here is a border ( just like any other wooden border imo; same dimensions etc) and I can walljump on this block how I want. This feels to me how It should be. Smooth, not blocking you, not limiting you. ( Rust - Wabbitface )
Just perfect. Now, translate this to the other blocks please.

GOOD EXAMPLE OF INCONSISTENCY
Image
Almost identical blocks but with different options.
OK = Walljumpable
NOK = Not Walljumpable

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WATER
Why does water punish you 2x?
1. You lose all stamina.
2. You are slow. I expect a Stormman that can slide, glide & sprint so fast to be able to swim faster. ( not that it needs to be realistic of course.)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT I WOULD LIKE NADEO TO DO
- Add block variations within the map-editor like we already have in the map-editor.
- Edit/improve excisting blocks
- Try this move on the map Rust , made by WabbitFace
http://www.imgdumper.nl/uploads8/548ef7 ... reen24.JPG

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BLOCK REQUEST
- 45° Variants of most blocks such as : Spawns - Teleports - Forcefields - Woodenblocks - Blue(CRUCIAL)
- Variants of arches with & without wooden decoration/cover
- Arrowpads not linked to bluepads and further tweaks to it
- Fences/cages centered on the block
- Official Invisible spawns

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feedback is welcome below.
Better movement for the win!

A TRUE POWER UP

If you remove the wooden things I think 50% of all maps will be glitchable. And it would make the blocks more ugly imo. Without decorations the maps would consist out of triangles and squares :roflol: Maybe for the professional players the movement is very important, but most players are playing it for fun and for them it's important to have a good looking game.

I think that number (50%) is ridicule and I think you are wrong. I investigated this while taking my screenshots and it only has advantages ( removing these borders ). I never was in a situation where any of my suggestions could result in a glitch. Feel free to prove me wrong by posting a screenshot.

The decoration is another discussion. I admit that maybe some blocks would become too simplistic or not decorative enough. That being said, I still dont like the borders. Decoration is something this game lacks of, but it should not limit movement whatsoever.

What is your opinion about everything else? Dont you agree that some of the walljumps you see in my screens should be possible etc etc? The surfing? The little edges where u can stand or not stand?

Thanks for the feedback :thx:

Imagine that all my suggestions would become reality and that all of a sudden way more moves would become possible. Wouldnt that be awesome?

Movement should always be consistent and feel natural ( which it currently really isnt ). Glitching should be "fixed/stopped/prevented" by something else like invisible blocks.

Maps that have parts like this:
Image

or this:
Image

will be easily glitchable with some walljumps. Currently the wooden boarders prevent you to do the final step to go up on the wall. (Maybe some obstacle pros can go up, but i'm speaking about casual players).
There are a lot of maps that have parts like this.

You can already use invisible blocks, but who will fix all the maps if you remove all the wood?

About the other things:
The sliding on some stones can be really annoying, thats right. But I always considered it as a part of the movement and i try to avoid jumping or walking on stones.

If you want to have an awesome movement you can rebuilt the blocks easily with blender (it's not hard to create this blocks) and remove the wood. Maybe the titlepack "Elite Movement Pro" will be the next big thing made by the community

Thank you for the screenshots! Its also good for NADEO to see this.

Well I can glitch here with or without these borders...it's just harder... So yeah... I understand your point ofcourse. It just doesnt feel right to me.

But you need to look at the bigger picture ( symoblic, im not talking about a screenshot ):
You are actually saying that it should not be 'fixed' because glitching would become easier.

Why cant we ask for the perfect solution? Smooth blocks, good decoration & anti-glitch.
If glitching becomes a side-effect of this "fix" then we should also fix the glitching.

I added 2 screens to the 1st post. ( the 2 examples ). It doesnt feel right at all. The last one should be fixed, dont you agree? Or ?

Novation is 100% right.

Hubble's comment is pretty much what I hate about this community.
"i consider these inconsistent physics, that take control out of the player's hands, part of the game"
If that's how you like playing games my friend, you should try Russian Roulette.
but most players are playing it for fun and for them it's important to have a good looking game.
Yeah, this is our community today. I am totally gonna stop playing this game...

Urinstein, you're comment is also what i hate about some guys in this community. Being just negative about the game is not what we need at all.
I never said that everything in the game is perfect. I try to support projects from other community members with my own ideas to make some parts of this game better. If you read my comment accuratly you might also see my suggestion about a community made titlepack with objects for better movement. It's not a constructive discussion at all if you pick some quotes out of context. If you want to leave the game you should also stop posting commentaries that we don't need.
I don't want to go into offtopic here, so lets go back to the the walljump thing.

I totally agree with you here. It would be also great to have such a block border at the ramps with the possibility of walljumps.
But those blocks should be added additionally to the existing blocks. So the blocks will not destroy the old maps with the possibility of glitching.
Then you can create maps with better movement or mappers can rework their maps.

Welcome in the haters club :D Basically, if someone has different vision than the current one, then we are called negative people.

This has nothing to do with the topic. The blocks have always be the same with the same walljumps. But as i already said i will not go into offtopic here and i will also not continue this discussion in this topic. I think novation wanted to have some feedback about his suggestions. I gave him a feedback. Open a new topic if you want discuss things that have been discussed 1000x times before. But it would be great if we can have a single topic with some reasonable suggestions.
