But I still don't seem to understand what they are doing for SM right now.

I find what's too bad is that we have almost no information about the game and that says no information says no players. Hylis or team nadeo does a few things that can make a good impression on new players and quickly

I love SM as it is now.. only problem as far as I can see all boils down to lags.. Shots that on your screen are hits are misses and visa-versa.. folks teleporting left right etc.. Seems to be related to countries as well. Me running a pretty decent server in the Netherlands is mostly a problem for French folks, but Scandinavia, German, UK etc.. its all fine.
