Please bring TrackMania Sunrise w/ Extreme to GoG or Steam

Post by Delicieuxz » 21 Jul 2014, 01:12

I think this is the best game in the TrackMania series, and that the offering in TM:S is much better than TM: United. Sunrise also has an awesome soundtrack.

The Platform and Puzzle challenges are the best parts of TM, I think - regardless of where people spend the most time playing. Quantity of time spent does not equate to quality of time spent - and Platform and Puzzle are where the quality of time spent is the highest.

Recompile the game for modern OS', and then release on Steam. It's not a big effort, and the payoff on game re-releases on Steam is huge.

Workshop support would be bonus.

You're kidding?
unofficial answer: Rejected

Reason:
There is already TrackMania United Forever on Steam, which also contains the parts that were presented with Sunrise: Bay, Coast, Island... and also with the new blocks from Extreme.
Better get TMUF, since it is also working with Windows 7/8, where Sunrise is not anymore and a simple recompilation would not work here.

Your post has got to be kidding:

"I think this is the best game in the TrackMania series, and that the offering in TM:S is much better than TM: United"

TrackMania United Extreme, which I've had on Steam for ages, is pisspoor and shoddy compared to TrackMania Sunrise. The Bay, Island, and Coast tracks are dialed-in / sub-average compared to what TrackMania Sunrise offered, and United is way lacking on content for those islands. It's not at all about just having the same blocks available, it's about everything - and TM Sunrise delivers on everything, while United Extreme is like a quick reminisce. Sunrise set the bar higher than where United Extreme aimed.

The only thing rejected is your post which didn't read the first sentence in the OP. United doesn't hold a candle to Sunrise when it comes to Bay, Coast, and Island maps - or Platform and Puzzle.

As for not a simple matter of recompiling: How do you know? The amount of work needed to make a Win XP game run on Win 7 / 8 is never all that much, and is infinitesimal next to the payoff of having it available.

I think it'd be better to let people speak for themselves regarding which games they like. United Extreme is a crud presentation for Island, Bay, and Coast compared to Sunrise - and Sunrise is a great game, with great music, and a great presentation, hence why it ought to be recompiled for modern OS' and sold on Steam. United does not satisfy the craving to play Sunrise.

download TMS campaign tracks here: http://united.tm-exchange.com/main.aspx ... =1001#auto (search box at the bottom, type TMS)

download UVME mod (which includes TMS soundtrack) here: http://www.strangeplanet.fr/work/trackmania-uvme/

and "don't be such an arrogant ass in your response" either.

Thanks for those links. I meant to reply long ago but couldn't for a health reason.

Anyway, it is not the same downloading all the level files and running them as a mod for united. TrackMania Sunrise is a complete game, a full and cohesive package, while everything Nadeo has done since is just a series of nodes that have race instances in them, and are very disjointed products. TrackMania Sunrise has a mood-setting intro, it has great music dedicated to different zones, it has great and well thought-out races, puzzle challenges, and platform stages, that are presented with natural progression. And then the Sunrise Extreme expansion tracks make it all the more amazing. And it all plays through TMS' front-end presentation, and feels complete.

Nadeo's work since is not even really comparable - it's bite-sized, reduced in scope and variety, pisspoor itemized presentation, mediocre music, and comparatively soulless.

The solution you suggest, downloading the tracks individually and running them in TMU, is no different than pirating a game. I'm not against someone, or even myself doing it, if it was a satisfying solution, but it isn't a logical solution in light of the alternative option of Nadeo recompiling TMS and re-releasing it on digital platforms. I want to pay for what is the most recent TM fully realized game presentation, and what I think is also their best TM product. I want to experience it with all the complete quality of production of its own front-end, its good music, its own mood and conceptualization. It makes all the difference in the value and satisfaction from playing it. What Nadeo does now isn't even really worth engaging, in my opinion. The substance just is not there.

It also does not serve Nadeo interests to leave what is effectively pirating their game as the best solution, because it says that Nadeo doesn't take pride in, or protect their IP.

And TMU's tracks are also not at the level of design of TMS' - but they're still better than the snack-bite samplers that Nadeo focused on making afterwards. TMS has bigger and more complete ideas, and I'd like to play it again. I'd gladly rebuy it on Steam, and I know many other people will, too. There's no loss from Nadeo to publish it there, while there is much gain to be had.

With all the remaster, HD, re-releases happening, and to the gaming community's great happiness, how about also TrackMania Sunrise? Nadeo have all the code, specs, and models, it probably would be a walk in the park, and well worth it.

I think the same but just replace TMS with TMO too.

I would also love the original TM re-released, as well. I think TMO and TMS are the two best TM games.

Can the question of reissues with modern OS support for TrackMania Sunrise, and the original TrackMania be put to the Nadeo team for consideration, and so that we can hear an official response? They could even be sold as a bundle, but I'd happily buy both separately just as well.

We have no plans to update or re-release Trackmania Original/Sunrise on modern OSes. We have simply too much work for the coming years to be able work on that.

It is a great pity that you do not modify the game to go on Win8 / 7 .... if i can adjust the game players themselves to go: TMO on Win7 / 8 .. TMS on win7 only ...

I hope to see an ever times when TMS and TMO will normally run ... and I'm not alone

P.S. .. Starforce protection is big enemy ! .. :pil TMO :pil TMS  :teub:
