It makes me really sad, that TMO and TMS aren't playable anymore, because these are the best Trackmania games for me and two of the top ten racing games in gaming history. A certain degree of nostalgia is also inclined. They're simply not old enough not to run anymore, 99% of the games of that time period run without problems on Windows 7 and 8.
There are several threads in tm-forum.com covering that problem, but without success, because there's not only a problem with Starforce, which can be dealt with, but both games also refuse to start with more recent NVIDIA videocards.
I'd be the happiest person on the planet if Nadeo would develope a patch for both games. I guess its just a few hours work for somebody who knows the code. This can also pay off financially, if you release the patch for owners of the retail version for free, but also release both games on gog.com as "Trackmania Classic". This would sell, I'm sure. It doesn't even matter that they're online mode is dead, because they have plenty of Singleplayer content, not to mention thousands of community tracks.
Come on Nadeo, don't let your own history die.

Can you consider outsourcing the reissue work? It must be worth it if no added effort is required from the Nadeo team. Sunrise is a fantastic game with incredible, exciting tracks, and with some really good music, and great menu atmosphere, and I wish I could enjoy playing through it all again.

It is a great pity that you do not modify the game to go on Win8 / 7 .... if i can adjust the game players themselves to go: TMO on Win7 / 8 .. TMS on win7 only ...

I hope to see an ever times when TMS and TMO will normally run ... and I'm not alone

P.S. .. Starforce protection is big enemy ! .. :pil TMO :pil TMS  :teub:
I tried your work around for TMS, but I get just a black screen upon launching the game.

Nadeo, if you've no plans to do anything to make TMS work on modern OS', and without Starforce, would you consider releasing the source code so that the community can then make it work, themselves?

I wonder that Nadeo didn't already make the source code public years ago or alternatively rerelease TMO and TMS at gog.com. Maybe they fear the competition of TM2 with their old games which are much better.

TMS with Extreme patched to work on modern OS' as a preorder bonus for TMT would be great!

That's as unlikely to happen as EA rolling out a player update for FIFA 98 if you preorder FIFA 16.

Has anyone figured out how to get TM Sunrise working on Windows 7 or 10, 64 bit?

Here are some guides I'm looking at, which I'm going to try out, because I really want to play TMS again. Hopefully Nadeo release a patch that removes starforce from the game, so that people who own it can play the game that they paid for. I think that's the only fair thing for Nadeo to do.

Alternatively, Nadeo could add TMS to their planet mania launcher, and let people who have their game keys add the game there. Or, Nadeo could package TMS + Xtreme for GoG, which would be great. I'll buy it again, if they do.

It's as likely / unlikely as a developer updating an older game for modern OSes, and making it available for sale on Steam, or GoG, or wherever else. Or, it's like ActiVision making Modern Warfare a preorder bonus for Infinite Warfare, or Croteam making Serious Sam 1 & 2 classic a bonus with the remastered editions, or 2K Games giving owners of the original Bioshock games free upgrades to the remastered editions.

And as we see, developers are doing these types of thigs all the time. So, it looks like it is very likely, if there is interest for it - and there is interest for it.

Nah, I couldn't figure it out yet.

None of the tutorials seem to work for me, I even went as far as setting up a virtual machine with Windows XP,
but it doesn't even work on there, even tho it should.

All I get is this: https://gyazo.com/d0ff8b3a6890f772a48f28dc4ef57a27

Yes, I had the Taskmanger opened and put it in front of the window, it just stayed in there even tho I closed it.
So the window is basically all black, but I can hear the Soundtrack.

I'm also kinda thinking about getting a PC with the recommended specs and WinXP just to play TMS again.
For me it's a lot of Nostalgia because I first played TMS when I was 3 years old.
(Yes, my father always played it and let me play sometimes aswell)

I hope someone figures out a new way or Nadeo patches it soon. :(

Edit: I actually got it to work on the Virtual Machine now, just follow Keylocker1000's tutorial. :D

Cool, I'll try it out sometime. I still hope that Nadeo releases TMS on Steam, GoG, and wherever else. If Nadeo don't want to spend effort on it right now, why don't they hand it over to GoG? GoG does the compatibility work for the releases for their platform. All that would be needed is Nadeo to provide a copy without Starforce - and I'm sure Nadeo's own master of the game doesn't have Starforce in it (recompiling the game without Starforce would be easy enough, anyway).

I'd like to show my ongoing support for TMS Extreme being released on GoG.

Releasing TMSE (and hopefully also TMO) will be a great help to Ubisoft, who are currently, even desperately, trying to build up support and money to fend off a hostile takeover by Vivendi, who are trying to take control of the company through acquisition of Ubisoft shares, and who are seeking a place on Ubisoft's board of directors.

Releasing TMSE, and TMO on GoG will have the effect of creating attention for Ubisoft from a wider audience, including older TrackMania fans who maybe haven't followed Nadeo into their newer TrackMania games. Releasing TMSE and TMO on GoG will generate favourable public support for the Ubisoft brand and company philosophy in general, which will help encourage Ubisoft stake-holders to back the Guillemot brothers' appeal to resist Vivendi.

Releasing TMSE and TMO on GoG will also tap into extra revenue streams that are currently going to waste - and with the money gained from sales of TMSE and TMO releases on GoG, Ubisoft can buy more shares back from their share-holders, to increase their say in the company relative to Vivendi's, and help prevent Vivendi from getting a seat on the board of directors. But if Ubisoft don't do this now, and then Vivendi takes the company over, then they will no longer have control over such releases, and they may even find themselves unable to profit from such releases, with Vivendi instead being who profits from future releases of these highly-regarded classic games.

Also, giving TMSE to GoG won't require much work from Ubisoft or Nadeo, because 3DPR / GoG themselves do the work to make games they host compatible for modern OSes.

I believe it is because Ubisoft is desperate to build up cash to buy back Ubisoft shares to fend of Vivendi's hostile takeover that Ubisoft have commenced a very early marketing campaign for Far Cry 5. I also suspect that this need for cash is why Ubisoft re-used TrackMania Turbo's tileset to create and release TrackMania 2 Lagoon. Now is the time to use all of Ubisoft's back catalog to also contribute to building up cash to buy back Ubisoft shares. But if Ubisoft doesn't do this now, then the Guillemot brothers may never have another chance to control, or profit from these great TrackMania and other Ubisoft games.

I know that the Guillemot brothers want to build Uplay as a brand for their titles. But if Ubisoft goes to Vivendi, then that plan will also belong to Vivendi, and not the Guillemot brothers'. Right now, Ubisoft needs immediate-term profit to ensure that Ubisoft remains in the Guillemot brothers' hands for the long-term. Now is the time to make use of everything Ubisoft has got to make use of.
