Help us to improve the Documentation site

Post by Cerovan »

While we work to improve and increase the content of the Documentation, it's always very nice to help us to to reach this goal faster.

You may not want to create a github account or think the process too complicated but you still want to help, feel free to write (or if you want to fix an article) your article directly on the forum as long as it's formatted in markdown (learn here and here, it's very simple).

You can also suggest articles (you can mention the purpose of the article only for example) that you want to see in this documentation, if it fits the content of documentation, we'll try to add it as soon as possible (or it'll be written by someone else if they are quicker :p).

Thank you and let's make a great documentation together!

hey, we need to work on this :) port existing stuff in it.

I think would be nice to put the link to the documentation as often as possible : http://doc.maniaplanet.com/contribute.html

I know it is in your signature but still should be in the topic as well :)

Actually it is not since this week that we can contribute, it was possible long before already ;)
Only that the new display format is probably a little bit more pleasant

I cam across a long tutorial for 3d skin import in maniaplanet:
I cannot rewrite it, as I lack the knowledge, and it is probably a bit too long for that. However, I think it is a good idea to link to it in the documentation

btw is there a page listing all community websites in the documentation? e.g. ManiaExchange, Maniapark, ...
I think that could be really helpful especially for newcomers ;)

The documentation is purely technical, not a "community" one in a way to promote community websites. The goal is to gather all the technical information about the Maniaplanet plateform.

To "promote" community websites there is the wiki but it will likely to change form "soon".

oh great
and thanks for the information.
Somehow It doesn't make sense for me to have two places with information for one game.
One page would be easier to handle imo

The wiki says:
Welcome at the community: enjoy this wiki for sharing your knowledge about ManiaPlanet and its titles
That sounds like a perfect desription for the technical documentation, too

It was planned to make the wiki to be both a technical and learning tool when it was created but we realized that it wasn't effective. That's why we move all the technical information on Github (easier to use for in-house and external developers) and we are still looking for a solution that can be easy to use for both in-house and external people for general help (non-technical stuff).
