Update windows kills Trackmania

Post by hackie »

My story :

Friday evening I turned on my pc for playing trackmania. I still had win7 running at that time and all worked fine.
I could play Maniaplanet and TMUF with no problems.

There was a update for windows so I installed it and restarted the pc.
It seems to work fine , I had internet and could do what I always did execpt : Trackmania.

When I launched TMUF I could only play solo , when I wanted to play online I get : can not initialize network.
With MP its even harder , I can start the game, go online , see all servers but when I want to connect to one I can't. ( can not connect to server )
So I try the solo campain in MP , its even worse.
When I click on a map ( solo campain ) and want to play , the game just shuts down.

When I started my pc on saturday the problem was still there so I decided to reinstall both games. No effect.
Maybe it was time to switch to win10 ( what already was planned in the future ).
So I decided to wipe win7 from my pc and installed win10.

Peace of cake, no problems or errors.
I had win10 , virus protection and a firewal installed and all run fine.
Time to install TM and MP ( tmuf and maniaplanet ) , and yes I could play again ! :3

But today , sunday, after a update of windows10 the same shit is back.
I can not play tmuf online cause : can not initialize network
I can not play MP cause I can not connect to servers , and the solocampain crashes when loading a map.

Why do I have this ?
I disabled firewall , virus protection ....... but nothing.

The strange part is I do have internet , I even can play other games online ( GTA V for example ) so its a bit strange.
Any suggetions are welcome.

Small update : When MP is launched I can chat ingame with my buddies, I still can not connect to online servers.
When I try to play on a local server tha game also crashes , just like playing a map in the solocampain.

Did you restart your internet modem as well?
Are you using IP V6? Perhaps Windows Update has changed some more settings...

Hmm and you did reinstall MP after the latest windows update again, or are you trying to find out the cause?
Did you check Defender as well?

And... Did you check with netstat -nab (requires admin rights) or a better tool if the typical MP ports are not blocked on your PC - by other applications?
Perhaps a new app which the update has silently installed... Who knows.

Hey hackie,

maybe this helps you out!

It's from: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/m ... kb4462926/

Known issues in this update (KB4462923 for Windows 7 and KB4462926 for Windows 8.1)

Symptom

After you apply this update, the network interface controller may stop working on some client software configurations. This occurs because of an issue related to a missing file, oem.inf. The exact problematic configurations are currently unknown.

Workaround

- To locate the network device, launch devmgmt.msc. It may appear under Other Devices.

- To automatically rediscover the NIC and install drivers, select Scan for Hardware Changes from the Actionmenu.

- Alternatively, install the drivers for the network device by right-clicking the device and choosing Update. Then choose Search automatically for
updated driver software or Browse my computer for driver software.

Install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) before installing the patch

In the support document, Microsoft notes that you would need to install the latest servicing stack update (SSU) before installing the patches for Windows 7. This would help you mitigate potential issues while installing the patch. The latest SSU is KB3177467 and it will be offered to you if you are using Windows Update. You can also manually install the SSU from Microsoft Update Catalog.

Hi hackie

To reset network container initialize settings and to clear any possible IP conflicts with other devices on your network, you could try this:

* In Windows 10, go to PC Settings then go to Network and Internet section. There's an option at the bottom of that page for "Network Reset" it basically sets all network settings to default after rebooting - so click on that (read the note so you know what's about to happen) and your system will reboot.

* After reboot, open Command Prompt (Type 'cmd' in the box next to the start button). Type the command 'ipconfig' and check that your IPv4 is shown (not a blank line). If this looks ok, quit Command Prompt (enter the command 'exit').

* Then launch the game and see if the issue is resolved or still present..... fingers crossed!

Good luck!
Cheers. .... :pil
