Re: TRACKMANIA 2 SNOW - Released Now!

Post by TMarc »

Today I tried to create a map in Snow.
I have a few small findings:

Driveway 4 and 5 have the same icon as Driveway 10 and 11, but a different shape... Which one of both sets is correct?

I would need a half length road (e.g. block roads -> day -> 9), some kind of s-curve,
and also half length wooden pathway (e.g. roads 10).

A nicer transition from road to pure snow would be good (to get rid of the sharp edge we currently have), also from snow to woorden pathways or platform.

There are no "night" road curves.

The loopings do not snap to the grid like the other blocks. And I can't place the parts properly, as they rotate randomly under the mouse cursor.

For the great wall, a crossroad could be interesting.

Tunnels cannot be placed into the regular mountains?

Hey,

good to have some constructive feedback ^^

I already noted to remake these icons ^^ I can confirm the icons are the same like the object, but it's bad cutted out in photoshop, so it may look not like the shape ^^

S curves are interesting, that could take place in the list :P
Long time ago the roads had nicer transitions, but sadly it's flickering when it's going into the ground, so I am thinking about a solution for it. Maybe as extra-end-icon.
It's too late for the night-version of road-curves now, because i had to put them in the night- and day-folder. I can't move the existing curves into the day folder anymore; the items would be missing :(

I already fixed the gridsnap at the loopings, you'll get the fixed version at the first update, which will come in a week.

It's normal, that items like tunnels can't set "holes" in a standard-terrain block. You can set it in a mountain, but then you couldn't drive in the tunnel, because the mountain-surface would still be there

Hmmm. ok. Thanks for your answers
Then you could perhaps add a tunnel entrance with a rock wall which is as high as the full size mountain?

Also add a ice surface square, for smaller ice lakes, like he surface you have done for "cliff top".

The larger checkpoint needs flags which are not just plain blue, but similar little bit dirty "texture" like the start and the finish.

And the UV of the red wood parts in the tunnel ceiling seem to be swapped, the textures are unnaturally streched.

After creation of a few tracks, I have got additional blocks ideas:
- less steep "Big Wall" slope block (e.g. half the climb rate)
- smooth slope start and end blocks for "Big Wall" set
- curved slope blocks for "Big Wall" set (using the larger curve as preset)
- a variety of obstacles on the "road" set, e.g. dip, ripples, half wave, narrower road
- a variety of traditional Asian houses with roof tiles

Finally I would appreciate a little hint about how to place the grid loopings.
The lower parts I was able to set, but the upper part of the looping is driving me crazy, as it rotates around and follows the bottom and the already placed blocks, instead of staying at the desired height and orientation :|

Thanks for your ideas :D

I made already plans about the driveways on GreatWalls, but i think i won't include it until the next update.

What do you mean with the second thing? A start in the driveway spirit?

New houses and buildings will come with the next update (some GreatWall-Castles), but I will make more houses for the 2nd update :D

Have a great day :)

With the second point, I actually meant that there is only slope at a fixed angle for GreatWall.
But there are no connections (transitions) from road at ground level, or platform at lower (near ground) level).
There could be also GreatWall slope blocks that start horizontally at one side, and make slopes like you already have on wood path and platform.

And to have start and stop blocks on GreatWall would also be nice!

Anyways, it's your choice which blocks you might add ;)
