[FIXED] Vsync isn't working in std 64 bits client

Hi,

I'm launching ManiaPlanet via Steam as a non-Steam game with some launch parameters (/profile=harest /config=Default), it allows me to get a little FPS counter by default for instance and i can clearly see the vsync isn't working. It's set on "Full" with a frames limit at 60 and it goes up to 250 in the menus.

Without Steam and just by using the launcher to start the game, using Ctrl+F11, i can confirm it still doesn't work with 180+ fps displayed.

Edit : I've a new info with the idea of @Electron to test another issue in the 32 bits client. I checked FPS in the 32 bits version, the vsync works. It's only an issue in the 64 bits one.

Recap of the V-Sync in :
  • Standard 64 bits client : NOK
  • Logs 64 bits client : OK
  • Any 32 bits client : OK
Conf. : Core 2 Quad Q9400 @2.67Ghz, ATI HD 7870 2Go, 8Go RAM, Win7 x64.

Cf. this thread from @Kulisa, we now know what the issue is. If Vsync is set to "Full", it's equal to "None" / Off. That was my case, it was on "Full".

I set it to "Aucune" (en: None) and it worked, my fps were at 60 instead of 100+ or 200+.
I guess it's either a translation issue (though there's a lot of missing translations atm with everybody having the game in both their language and english combined), or an inversion here.

Edit : Nope. It worked in appearance. I just played a bit here, discovered the MX OBS Stadium map, i've crazy tearing. It's like the vsync is off but the frames limit is on. I guess i'll go back with the 32 bits client to play.

I tried. It changed nothing. Again, vsync works fine too for me, but only in the 32 bits client. I don't know if i should use the debug version, or if the log will not display anything related to this issue.

Nope, it's a 60Hz monitor.

Do you see a low fps with Half-VSync(2) setting ?

Thanks for the clarification. And no, no low fps with V-Sync set to Half, or even Quarter. It doesn't even lower.

Graphics is not my domain, so maybe what i'm going to say is a bit silly, but here it goes :

Have you tried renaming the game 64b executable (From Maniaplanet.exe to Maniaplanet64.exe or Maniaplanet_renamed.exe or whatever). If I recall correctly, some drivers do stuff such as "if exe name == Maniaplanet.exe, then override some settings to have better performance". You then have to launch directly the renamed file.

Well, it's simple enough to make it worth a try. I hope it helps :)

I answered in the Kulisa thread about any override that would be done with the driver and it was correctly disabled. By that i mean the AMD Radeon Setting "Wait for V-Sync" is set on "Disabled unless the app specifies it" in the general settings profile, and there's no specific profile for ManiaPlanet.
I tried what you said without much belief and it didn't work, but thanks for trying to help ;).

If the debug version may output something useful there i may try that, but so far @LuckyBoy who answered until now in the other topic didn't come with that possibility so i guess it'd not be of any help :/. As long as i've the 32b client backup, it's fine i guess. Otherwise i could still try to indeed override ManiaPlanet on the V-Sync to force it with the Radeon settings but i never did stuff like that because i always thought that V-Sync managed directly by the game would be better.

Okay... I don't know what to say. I downloaded the ManiaPlanetLogs executables. I wanted to get a log with the vsync issue. I was somehow disappointed and not disappointed at the same time. Bacause V-Sync worked in the 64 bits client with logs. While in the standard 64 bits client without logs, it doesn't.
Maybe it can be helpful to find the cause of this issue.
The log won't be of any help since V-Sync worked but here it's. I tried different settings with the V-Sync in there and closed the game. It worked all as intended. It doesn't seem to be reflected at all in the log, no v-sync mention, settings menu / changes, etc. I guess that's why @LuckyBoy didn't mention the use of these executables.

I have fixed this for the next Openplanet update.

Hi,

Well i should be sorry for not trying without OpenPlanet :oops:. There was never any issue in the 32 bits version so i didn't think to OpenPlanet at all for this. I should have since it's the only client where OpenPlanet is hooked to and where the issue is. Maybe something you were working on then i guess ? If you want to provide a bit more details, i'd love to know more about it.

Basically, vsync was being forced due to a thing I overlooked in the overlay hooking.

Also, I'm dumb, because I didn't double check whether the Openplanet auto updater worked in 1.09. Sooo, you'll have to manually update.
