Nations II

Post by aprror »

Hey,

This is not my primary cup of tea currently, but ive been heavy Stadium player ever since it was released, spending 6 years with it and in the TMX scene. But.. One thing came to my mind and I wanted to share

# Introduction words,

TM Nations, its the most successful TM game of Nadeo. Not only because it was free, Not because how it looks, but because its the best feeling car game all around. Even when mayor portion have tried other environments, Nations has stayed most popular, most played in the competitve scene, etc...
The physics, the sliding, technicality, the road grip, the speed, the competitiviness, the roadsize relation to the car, everything are very good feeling. Easy to get in, forgiving but hard to master. You feel the G-force while playing, I sometimes push my keyboard so hard it almost breaks, it has very good driving feel with kb.

However, I always wondered why Nadeo didnt push this format further with new series, to the point its perfect.

Please, dont get me wrong how I express below, its hard to use "soft words" and its faster for me to write as i feel,

- Its one of the best car games, but its set into worst atmosphere settings of any TM serie
- Its the most low quality looking game of any TM serie. Compared to Valley, Turbo, etc..
- It has the most LOL looking blocks of any TM serie.
- It dont make any sense to drive in stadium field with formulas, not even talk about dirt parts (or flying balloons/palm trees in there).
- Basically, Its set into LOL environment.

Yet, its still the most successful, biggest fan base, most competitively played and best feeling car game for big portion of TM players.
Its weird huh?

To my eyes, the format itself has so much more power. It could be set into any superior place, using the same physics and gameplay as trademark to call it a sequel serie. Exactly the same driving feel, but completely different looking game.
It could be made really bad ass cool car game. Superior, GREAT looking game, best game. Using the same driving physics, transitions and all that, but complete rework to high standards. Like in Miami streets, where the loops are big abandoned waterpipes, jump plates are rusty trashcan pieces, etc..

Knowing theres alot of fans, competitive scene, etc, the fanbase would be great lead, much less risk than creating a completely new physics.
I see theres always risk with new environment releases to see "do they like to drive this or not". I think the risk of any TM game is the gameplay driving. Not the graphics, not the extra goodies, but simply the driving.

But, to my eyes, the power of nations format has been underestimated how big fanbase the game has and how big it would've been with its own legacy series. It has so much more room to grow, set into new places, etc..

So that was my introduction words for this example I share. This is just fast overall stuff what could be done.
Use your own imagination to make your best vision, this is just my vision so I cant say does it work,

## TM Nations - Los Angeles:

- The atmosphere: Set in the Los Angeles streets. Palm trees, etc
- Physics: Nations format. Car steers like in nations / Tech slides like in nations / The car size relation to road size is like in nations.
- Car: Lamborghinis or anything

# Blocks: Blocks has that same Nations transition feel, but are made from real life pieces. Some examples:

- Loop is some huge abandoned waterpipe, rusty steel.
- Construction yard steel banks for jumps, etc

- Other construction yard stuff, to build all kind ideas, banks, transitions, landings, etc:

- Round train tunnels - drive 360:

- Ghetto areas/tunnels:

- Neon bar lights on some of the houses (seen in the night mood). Cool colorations

- Dusty sand ghetto areas.

- Abandoned water places for fullspeeds platforms

- Trashy ghetto areas. Ruff looking.

- Beach sand to represent Nations Dirt.

- Thrash cans that flys on the screen when you drive on top of them.

- Bonus, fun stuff: Old cop car / other "stylish cars" in the car selection.

- Extra: To make true city maps easy to navigate. Path marker on the road
(After you finish making track, you can set "route line" and it draws lines to the asphalt - maybe player can set it on/off from options while playing):

So, you can build a true city maps and drive in realistic places.

- Some random inspiration, moods, places:

Sunset - http://68.media.tumblr.com/01a96c3a8fc8 ... 1_1280.jpg

------------

But yes, this is just fast overall example what could be done. The theme could be anything, TM Nations - Miami, etc..

Could even create more series and continue Nations legacy. For example Nations II - LA, then Nations III - Africa, etc - then combine all these games togeter under "Nations" game, like environments in TM.

Keeping the same stadium driving feel, road size relation, etc in all games, to make it the format and players can easily adapt.
The competitiveness would remain the same and everything.

Allright, that was the thoughts and wanted to just share if it has any use, bye!

Having multiple environments for one type of physics sounds interesting.
Maybe specific car handlings with different surfaces could be interesting as well so you have the road handling being the same but a a new 'something',
making the environments diverse, like the gravel physics from Valley being something else than the dirt or grass physics.

You can create custom blocks, download a car skin and use it on a environment car (Lamborghini car model on StadiumCar). Then you can create a TP where you can add items you created, add mod, build some tracks and publish it.

Your idea can be done...
