A question regarding custom car models

Post by macedo »

When you use a car model bigger or smaller than the default one, what happens with the "collision boxes"? I would guess that the game would keep the collision detection the same, but then it wouldn't be very fun to keep hiting stuff your car model is not actually touching.
The alternative doesn't look good as well, because that would give an unfair advantage to those who got a small car model.

The collision box remains the same, no matter if you use a monster truck or a motorbike.

the "car" itself always has same size, and there's not even a little difference.

Yep, this is true.

Even if the model is slightly smaller, the collision box is the same size... so you may hit a wall even if your model appears not to.

This is why I only drive cars that are the exact same size as the default car for whatever environment I'm playing in.

Nope. Look at these screenshots. I'm holding left against the wall with both cars:

What you notice while spectating may be a result of network lag, causing the car to appear as if its driving closer to the corners than it actually is.

Someone taking the top dedimania times may just be the result of how good they're driving, not that the car is giving them any advantage.

Anyway, all I know is what I can see from my own tests. I don't claim to be an expert about car models. I just wouldn't jump to any conclusions about it.
