Re: Infomania Project

Post by TStarGermany »

Hi there, bervt gave me notice of this project, so I'll say a few words

(1) @bervt - The reasons why all MAC content remains copyrighted is easy to understand: What was published @ MAC, was done specifically for MAC, and the overall working hours for all the tuts and tools through the course of time, are in the higher 4 digit area. This is nothing you just give away to anyone who just asks for it. I'm happy to sell the project to someone who is actually serious enough to either continue MAC, or to build an entirely new project with MAC data as its basis. (One non-negotiable condition: The original authors are credited when using their work.)

BTW: The website data repository is roughly 1.5gb large. So no, sending it via email is not really an option.

(2) Don't ever underestimate the work that is inevitably attached to such a project. In order to create the best source of information for visitors, you have to know more about a topic than most other layman folks out there. Plus, you'll have to spend a considerable amount of time to present that data to all your visitors in a meaningful way, from absolute beginners, who yet don't understand anything, to pros, who're trying to understand a rather minute detail. And if you're encouraging other people to submit tutorials, you better understand what they're talking about and where they made mistakes. After all, you're the editor-in-chief.

If you're not willing to show this amount of dedication: Let go. This is not for you.
There are enough places with either mediocre information, or too little information, or information which is presented in unreasonable ways - which was exactly the same situatition before (and because of which) I decided to create MAC in the first place.

thank for the answer .
@TStarGermany (and all)
we undersand that it is going to be a lot of work , for that we don't expect to publish this site in a short time maybe Beta in april .
i will answer the first point : buy MAC maybe , we are going to need it ,not the codage but for the resources
and of course the author will be credited ( we see to add maniaplanet api on the site we work to publish "in game" author publication ( in option )) ,until the project is more advanced i take memory of that possiblity .( i will take contact with you later ,when the project is more advanced )

i take the second point in a really good advise , yes we individualy cannot know all the stuff in maniaplanet
that is why i m not alone .

@all
there is already site , forum , wiki ..... to find information but like Say TStarGermany :
"There are enough places with either mediocre information, or too little information, or information which is presented in unreasonable ways - which was exactly the same situatition before (and because of which) I decided to create MAC in the first place."
it is the same reason we decided to create this website

So true.
The community need more projects, not the opposite :shock:
Some websites closed like Maniacreative or Screenmania or TmMod before. We need new ones.
I prefer to see more creations, more blogs, more ideas and more diversity in the community. :pil

Ok so find me a complete tutorial about manialink creation. It exists but you will search for a long time.

There was another thing that was not told to you. The website will have others functions like a project manager for example ans others that I can't tell you for now.

But if this remake of maniacreation does not interest you, please do not annoy the others. ;)

Because you have github in english, maniacommunity in english and deutsch and other websites in english... We have only Mania-Actu in the french community website and meuhmania also. But we didn't have french tutorial website.

So we need this website

+1 ;)

Depends. More is not always better.
I feel the need for a central place where all information is situated.
So not just another website with other info and information also available on a different site.
It's time to have a proper place to put all the information, together with the official documentation.

I highly doubt that, since the official documentation will not be on your website ... ;)
