Air control can be executed through some interesting escape-move-thing.
As for your second point, I think that it will not make any sense in game with acceleration-influenced movement. Due to that, this effect of cross-hair is fine, and even follows some laws of physics.

Re: Jumping
I dont care what the laws of physics say. Its messing with your aim (very slightly, almost unnoticably). If this is a result of physics engine at work, then so be it, but i doubt it is, and i would very much like at least the option to turn it off.
Re: Jumping
When you manage to do in real life (with a decent pole, for example)(or even with bare hands), write me a pm. Then we will take some gasoline, and burn down Newton's corpse, thus laws of physics, discovered by him, will fail in the case you succeed.
More simple variant - yes, the effect you dislike is definitely due to physics engine.

Re: Jumping
I think a speedgain while jumping, the possibility to rocketjump (as known from other games) will solve this problem. The point is thatcurrently there is no special mechanic in SM which makes it interesting and fun to play. Its only about shooting projectiles and moving arround. Still the most skilled game so far, but a cool mechanic wont make it less competitive.
Re: Jumping
Rocket jump would require a complete rebalance.
What about some quick-strafe ? So we get the ground dodge move.
Albeit there has to be some changes to jumping too.
Maybe a wall jump ? I don't know, to be honest.

Re: Jumping
yes pleaaaase add bunnyhopping or strafejumping.
you wouldnt even have to change the current jump thing, just let people airstrafe and then we could use the 'sprint' thing to gain speed fast and still bhop

Re: Jumping
Similar to UT3, would like a double jump or wall jump considering the shear number of close quarter battles that occur on most maps and game types.
Re: Jumping
A walljump and/or dodge would be great indeed. The duels are just a bit boring now... left right left right left shoot jump= dead...walljumps and dodges would add a great value to this. Besides, it would be more difficult to shoot someone and more difficult to master the game because you don't need only good aim but you have to master the movement also and because of that i think it would be even more competitive in a way. Also when you're in a sticky situation ( ex: your in the middle of two ppl who are fighting) it's almost impossible to get away without getting eliminated, because if you jump you die anyway. The only option you have is hoping you frag the one before you and praying the one behind you will miss you a couple of times.
Another fact is, if you add walljump/dodge, is the option to make bunnytrack maps. Ok, maybe not the most obvious reason to add more movement but it's a very popular mod in some games. I'm not a real fan of it but this game would be fantastic for it.

Re: Jumping
You forgot: boost-dodging, wall-dodge-jumping, ramp-dodging and a ew others from UT2004 alone.

All joking about different movements aside. Other games have other abilities to move around.
But !!!!!
Aircontrol is a must. Currently you cannot move around properly. You fight more the poor controls of this game than the opponents.
Look, when you traverse a parcour or so in real life you can decide to jump far, or high, or whatever. A good game compensates the lack of the different height and width at jumpstart with aircontrol.
So, whoever designed a fast paced FPS with this movement:
