If you place deep water like in this picture, a hole appears at the bottom of the castle block allowing you to fall into the emptiness.

Interesting finding

I could only reproduce this issue it if you start the new water exactly at the bottom of the castle block, like you apparentyl did:

Started from any other place around, the castle block is properly going down into the water without any black void.
