This game is so much better then I expected, reminds me of my UT99 days, but the community is so small

Maybe it should just go free2play invest in some marketing and then sell some cosmetic things, like skins, nick fonts and colours idk...

I just want to say the game is awesome, wish Nadeo the best of luck on growing the community.

Also mega tip for you guys, hopefully you'll know what I'm talking about, UT99 had a mod called Rocket arena, it was the shit, it was a 1v1 2v2 set of maps, limited weapons you could only use the shock rifle, sniper and rockets I believe, maps were generally smaller or at least in closed spaces it was epic.

The game is fantastic, but again Nadeo can't seem to market in the US. Should be all over IGN/Steam etc.... web banners etc.

This is an eSport- emphasis on SPORT. I think they need to promote it as a sport, and come up with EASY to use tools to setup and manage competition, and promote. The Interface to the game is horrid. I can't find anything. Spending literally HOURS digging through forums, finding old information, bad information, half answers, NO answers from MediaPlanet.

For example, I would like to create a casual weekend competition for "Planets". Nothing fancy, just setup a match, promote it, have people sign up and play, and award prizes.

It's nearly impossible to find out how to do this simple thing.

If they are going to promote this game as a "shooter" then they are toast..... but as an eSport with the correct tools? It would be awesome.

The game is great. The tools to make the game greater? Don't exist, are broken, and confusing. This must be fixed for this to make it in the U.S..

Remember: the game was just released and, here in EU, i can see many more new players/servers.

I remember just a couple of months ago, when i had to search for an ELITE server there were only 1/2 pages with players on them, and after like 2 AM we were litterally just a dozen players left. Now there are like 7/8 (if not more) pages and i can find servers with players at whatever hour in the night (tested the other week-end, played until 6 in the morning! xD ).

So the community has grown significantly in the last period, and it will probably keep on grow if Nadeo keeps on polishing both Shootmania and ManiaPlanet.

What i want to say is: just give it time! The potential is there, if word spreads it should be all good!

For tutorials about how to use their tools Nadeo has relayed quite a bit on the community, less with ManiaPlanet as there is a wiki now but they still do. THere was a lot of changes that was done since the begining of TM² so existing sources aren't good anymore. They are slight changes that needs to be made that wasn't made because of the new changes coming constantly.

They have started to update existing wiki pages I believe and posting some information on the forum about some of their tools. Sadly the dedicated is still in beta, but there was a lot of progress this week on it, so we can expect some more to come.

The devs community here is quite active, and working on plenty of cool new stuff we are very excited . I am sure tutorials will popup. Actually the installing a dedicated server is quite easy as it is essentially the same as in TM² TMF ... but in shootmania you need to add the /title=SMStormElite@nadeolabs that isn't well documented at all.
Actually the only thing that we realy need is for servermania to get updated for shootmania : http://cyrlaur.free.fr/ServerMania/download.php Once that is done it will be easy to open a simple server.

Nadeo needs to come up with a "kit" or set of tools. Officially, and forget about the community being the lead on this. A baseline if you will. The biggest problem imho is that the tools or interfaces are rough. Real rough. So people go on the web looking for info, and find all this really old stuff, that is now either outdated, or just wrong. You an spend hours going down one path, only to find a dead end, or an old obscure forum post that takes you in another direction. People get frustrated and give up.

Just today I found out that the reason I'm not seeing servers is that my ZONE is why. It defaults to your local "zone" and by going into an extra step, outside of the main server browser, to set my zone to world. It wasn't obvious, but is a game changer for finding servers.

So true... I never understood why the default setting is your zone. I don't know how servers are filtered, but I guess they are by response time. So even if you set it to world, laggy servers shouldn't appear, with giving you more results anyway... I'm in EU zone so finding server is not a problem, but I was able to play on NA servs without any problems...

And I discovered this setting way way later after I began playing Shootmania.

Advertising is important but the amount of money Nadeo and Ubi would have to spend to market the game on the same level as CoD would probably hurt the ongoing development and support of the game. Because we are talking about a stupidly large sum of money to do that.

It may be slow, but I think they are doing the right thing. This is probably one of the most solid titles on launch I've ever seen. So we just need to focus on keeping the current community alive and productive. That'll be better for the life of this game over the long term than spending the GDP of a small nation on an ad campaign.
