I agree, this game needs more aggressive advertising. Or at least ads that can give people a glimpse of what SM is like as a shooter. I think a lot of people are dismissing it based on appearance and not realizing it's such a solid FPS.
Nadeo has every right to brag (and they should shamelessly) about including demo recorders, full mod/map editor support, dedicated server files, support for competitive play, and customization-a-plenty. This is the stuff the FPS community begs for, and finally it's all here in one game.
Anyway, I hope things pick up for Shootmania in NA. Can't wait to see some of the other game modes (speedball, jailbreak, combo) having full servers like Europe does.
An idea to get more players

Re: An idea to get more players
As someone on the outside, I agree that a demo or trial would go a long way towards grabbing more players. I'm aware of what Shootmania is and its mechanics, but all the same I'm not ready to throw down $20 without having first played it. I want to see that it plays as how I expect it to and that I enjoy it, things that cannot be evaluated from videos and descriptions alone.
It looks like a fun and unique game, but due to the latter in particular I don't have much to compare it to. So having a demo of some kind to figure out whether I would even like it would go a long way towards deciding whether to purchase it.

it's planned to have free accounts with limited number of features/gamemodes. but as usual from Nadeo, you can't expect any real ETAs about it.
