Ugh, I wrote this whole post below... and then realized it doesn't apply to changing a map from Race -> Platform. :P

It's a good reminder though if you're trying to convert from Platform to Race.

Make sure Race.Script.txt is Race.Script.txt and not Race.Script.txt.txt.

To be sure, make sure you have extensions viewable in Windows Explorer.

To check that you do, open a folder.. then go to "Organize" then click "Folder Options".

On the "View" tab you'll see an option "Hide extensions for known file types". Make sure that is unticked.

After you do that, check the Race.Script.txt file again and make sure it is named properly. This could cause problems for some people.

What problem are you having converting a Race map to Platform? Did you follow every step in my guide?

  • Create a blank txt file called Race.Script.txt and save it to "Documents\ManiaPlanet\Scripts\MapType\TrackMania\"
Should be "MapTypes" :) Then it's supposed to work.

So I was thinking I must be missing something basic when I couldn't find a way to freely/easily switch a track from platform back to race.

I'm pretty surprised that the solution for switching a track mode is for the end user to create an empty script file. Yes, this is simple, and yes, it works, but...who at Nadeo possibly thought this was an adequate way to approach this issue?! You should never force an end-user to create extra files to access basic functionality for a game they paid for. And why the hell haven't these files been added to the game in an update?! :teub:

This surprises me all the more when you consider that Nadeo had a perfectly functional system in the first TM, where you could quickly switch game modes and types within an environment.

Now, with TM2, they decided to make a separate "Platform" game, which uses the "Canyon" environment but occupies a different slot. Why not just add platform functionality to Canyon (and all other games) rather than start separating games by mode rather than environment? Now it turns out that you have to start making random text files to make things function properly.

I was always really impressed by the solidity and ease-of-use of the original TM, and while the TM2 gameplay itself is excellent, it seems like the overall game structure of Maniaplanet/TM2 has this sort of slapped-together, "making it up as we go" feel to it.

Okay, rant over, I'll shut up now.

Thanks for the info and solution!

Hm. My empty script on mode Race don't work... If i change it for multiplayer, then show error. If i choose race map, then show black screen and quit on main menu.
Who can give me working scripts? :D (GameMode Race and MapType Race)

I want using two modes in my titlepack. (Race and Platform  )

There's none since it's hardcoded.

To change back to Race you have to delete the maptype script, then it automatically goes back, there's no way to select Race "normally" as far as I know. I don't think it has been fixed yet, if it will ever be fixed in first place...

That is not working on the script mode race? And how do I do now? I really need this mode...
Perhaps you can rewrite script from Shootmania, but this maniascript too hard for me. (They say it is in the likeness of C, right?)
