ESL yet again shoots itself in the foot.

I think this thread would fit better over at the ESL website. Seems to me that this topic is aimed at the french ESL admins or the ESL organizers.

Note to Combo:
Combo has always been a demo title only, made for the only purpose to demonstrate features of ShootMania.
But some people take it wrongly as official and finished game mode, which is simply wrong.
The community has to investigate it, and if no one is doing it, no one can help it.

Where has this ever been stated? I can't recall reading this in the update log of the update that implemented the mode. In fact before it was released they tried to hype it up as if it was in fact a new official game mode. A link to the statement and explination of us being the beta testers would be nice.

I have no problem with waiting. Well, I have. The problem is that I have no one to play with or against. It's cool that Nadeo tries to improve the game. But what for, if I have no one to play already?

There are always a few players. Now please don't say they are to weak for your skills
No one forces you to actively wait, especially if it is only frustrating for you.
You could try out things and report issues etc. like you already did, and yes, see and wait if it improves, and go ahead to something totally different in the meantime.

Shootmania is supposed to be a competitive game, and me myself, being an ex-competitive gamer myself is looking for competitive games only. I'm not interested in casual, 4fun only type of game. But if it is what Nadeo wants to make out of Shootmania - it's alright. There are other games out there.

Basically any game where you have to play against AI or other players is "competitive". This is not a specialty of FPS or of ShootMania only, and even if the main aim of ShootMania is the multiplayer gaming, it is not necessarily meant to be "competitive" only.
What you are supposing here comes from your personal background and current possibilities or wishes, and from your perception.

Nadeo tries to make the game suitable for different classes of players, with different mode, skill levels, etc.
Agreed that casual players will probably not succeed with Elite or other pro competition modes,
but I don't see any problem here.
ShootMania is doing its baby steps, players have to get used to it, Nadeo has to get used to the new type of players, and both(!) have to evolve with communication and with giving and taking.

Combo is a well made, fun to play mode that could easily beat Elite to popularity IF Nadeo actually decided to promote it. Active Combo players are wiling to start playing competitive as-is right now, there is not much to be done about that mode. It's good already.

The only problem is that Nadeo doesn't seem to care. The only way to start playing is to download the mode from a hidden manialink. Just like you'd have to be a chosen one to actually get to find it hidden out there.

That's certainly a surprise for Nadeo, that this test mode is apparently that successful.
But what if Nadeo did never want to make it a official mode? They wanted to give an example, and to engage and ancourage the community to activate their brains, to create even more creative modes.
Look at Speedball, Obstacle, Search & Destroy and many others.

What I can see what happened, everyone rushed into Elite - because some wanted to be part of a elite that is not yet there, and others because they thought it is a finished pro competition mode.
But even Nadeo had to see Elite is not really finished now.
So let them first make Elite suitable for the demanding pro players, and then see what can be done next, like improving the matchmaking.

The other official modes seem to be less attractive indeed, and this is where Nadeo has to think about what to do with them.

Still no response from ANY french ESL admin. My request had been turned down again for the 4th time with the same reason.

I get why they'd want to have a french cup. But you should write to the EU admins and ask them about an all EU cup. Wouldn't say that the french admins are at fault here.

We finally got an answer from the ESL staff. And it's horrific.

Apparently, ESL france did never allow any non-french players to join their cups, but the ESL.fr combo admin had always been allowing us to play so that the community would consist of a few more teams.

But the day has come, and ESL will never ever again non-french players to play combo on ESL.

GG ESL. The way to kill the game. You had one job.

If anyone out there could possibly explain what profit does ESL.fr have from disallowing us to play wins a cookie. In a meanwhile, I'll try to establish a new cup series. The community can't go on with no competition to be played so somebody has to do something on this case.

I play the combo mod and interface because these mods allow you to use your brain instead of other games mods only based on aim or something
Now i'm a ESL.FR admin for shootmania storm, my first wish, and thats why i'm an admin is : shootmania storm

My suggestion is to change the ESL.FR cups to ESL.EU cups ( both Elite & Combo )

Maybe when SM gets more popular u can again limit it to those 4 countries. But now? Now it would be stupid to not accept more teams. A cup with only 9teams is not a cup
Your english is good too, so it shouldnt be a problem to help other ( non fr ) teams.

So basically : stop ESL.FR and make it EU cups ( for Elite & Combo ).
