Game Crashes immediately after launch

Post by aaronh250 »

Bought and installed shootmania a couple hours ago but it doesn't seem to work. I can get into the Mania Planet launcher just fine but as soon as i click on Play, the game launches and this appears...

Image

then immediately crashes. no error message or anything. also, notice how the text is 'mirrored'

unusual error and i've tried everything from disabling my antivirus/firewalls, ran as admin, to updating my drivers, uninstalled and re-installing, played around with different resolutions...nothing seems to work; if anyone can resolve this issue, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Also, I bought it off and launched it off from Steam.

That's very odd.
Flipped textures... this looks like some bad configuration of your video driver.
Did you change anything in its configuration? Did you try to reset it to defaults?
Which video card is it, btw. ?
Also for a try please delete the file Default.System.Config.Gbx in your documents\ManiaPlanet\config folder, it will be created new automatically.

There is also a standalone ManiaPlanet client that runs without Steam, e.g. with the demo versions.
If you have time and like to investigate, you could try that (e.g. with TrackMania² Stadium),
and see if you have the same issue there. You could then also try a debug version that writes some more information in a text file.

Looks like you bought it through Steam.
Have you tried to verify the integrity of the game cache (right click shootmania - properties - Local Files - Very integrity of game cache) ?

TMarc- No, i didn't mess with any of the configuration or driver card settings; though, i did reset everything back to default to make sure.
I have a gtx 560 ti. windows 7, i5 processor
I tried deleting the Gbx file, but to no avail - game still didn't work. same issue arose.

I went ahead and downloaded the client alongside trackmania stadium as you suggested but got this error as soon as the launcher started up...

"ManiaPlanet: ManiaPlanet.exe - Bad Image
C:\Windows\system32\d3dconpiler_43.dll is either not designed to run on Widnows or it contains an error.
Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator
of the software vendor for support."

@Hubby - Yes, i did try verifying integrity of cache files more than once.

This obviously looks like your video driver has an issue - or taht the game is not using the video system properly.

ManiaPlanet needs one of the latest versions of DirectX 9, even if DirectX 11 is installed.
Did you install DirectX9?

I also have a GTX 560 Ti and absolutely no problem with ManiaPlanet (Windows 7 64 bit, and nVidia driver version 331.65).

"bad image" might be the indication for a broken file, or a wrong driver version, or most probably a wrong bitdwith of some components, usually happens if you try to run a 64 bit application in a 32bit only environment.

On my system, the file D3DCompiler_43.dll has the file version 9.29.952.311, size 2.4MB (2.526.056 bytes).

1) Please uninstall the video driver, and install the version with bitsize according to your system.
2) reinstall DirectX9

sorry for the late response, i had to step out for some errands.

i have the latest versions of directx. 9 and 11...went ahead and uninstalled, re-installed just to make sure. (that's something i also tampered with when trying to resolve this issue)

my driver version differs from yours, though; i have version 334.89 bitsize 64, which is the same as my operation system. regardless, again, i went ahead and uninstalled/re-installed just to make sure. game is still acting up.

what about the file version and size of the failing DLL?

What you can try: delete the file Default.System.Config.Gbx in your ManiaPlanet Config folder.
It will be recreated automatically.

Also try the debug version of ManiaPlanet (if you are using the standalone client, not Steam)

how do i find that? i came across it at one point, couldn't find it again. (the file version and size of the failing DLL)

i already deleted the file default.system in the config folder, it recreated it automatically like you said but it still doesn't resolve the issue.

and i'm not using the standalone client, i'm launching through steam

Have you tried the version without Steam ?

ManiaPlanet without Steam is available here:
https://player.maniaplanet.com/account/downloads

As TMarc said, you can use the debug version which is available in the link of his signature.

well, i mean i'd have to have a maniaplanet account to do that, right? i haven't figured out a way to create one. i know i could've created one as soon as my game started up and stuff but it won't even launch, so i wouldn't know how to do it.
