You may add old music here:

Code: Select all

ManiaPlanet\MPDocuments\ProfileFiles\Media\Musics\Stadium\Race\Day, Night, Sunset, Sunrise

I'm not sure by what you mean by this. Do you mean the backgrounds from inside the titles (formally a clip from in the environment)? Or do you mean by the full background of maniaplanet (the clouds from after logging in?)
Crashing happily since 2009.

The background of canyon from mp 1.0 right here.
I was hoping it could be brought back as Canyon's menu theme again, 'cause IMO it fits better alongside the rest.

Oh yes. I look forward to this music too ...
Now you may find old music here:

Code: Select all

ManiaPlanet\MPDocuments\AllFiles\PacksCache.zip
into the .zip

Code: Select all

titles.zip/menu/TitlesMedia/TMCanyon/MenuMusic.ogg
"New" music placed here:

Code: Select all

ManiaPlanet\MPDocuments\AllFiles\PacksCache.zip
into the .zip

Code: Select all

TMCanyon_HD.zip/Menu/TitlesMedia/TMCanyon/MenuMusic.ogg
I think, if replace the new music, you will have old TM2 music in title. But I not tested it.

There is one thing I've been very curious about for a long time, that I really feel maniaplanet is lacking at the moment. A complete in-game tournament and ranking system for teams and players in official competitions.

As I logged into http://player.maniaplanet.com today, I saw that a system has been prepared for organizations (tournament hosters), teams and official competitions with a ranking system as well as the possibility to upload your maps so they can be used in official competitions. A vague memory tells me also that a post was made by Hylis about this feature to maniaplanet on mania-actu.com back in the days, but have never since heard anything about it.

I created a team for BX3 and invited all my players, filled in homepage link, sponsors, etc. and I can even access the team in maniaplanet ( http://maniamatch.maniaplanet.com/teams ... eamId=8969 )

It's all looking good so far. The problem now is that no one actually use this system. What a pity I thought, and I instantly contacted ESL if they knew about this system being available for use, so that we finally could build up a ranking based on teams performances in the major tournaments that could potentially take over the function from the disbanded page tm-rankings.com.

One of ESL's representatives told me he knew about the system, but manialinks did not work, and the system in general was very immature. I don't know much more about it, other than the fact that this system is quite well hidden in the background with currently no one using it.

So my question is, in what stage is your development with this feature and when could we see it being ready to use? I can't tell what priorities are high in your current situation, but I'm pretty sure that the lack of this system prevents many new players from discovering the competition aspect of the game and is hurting the growth of E-sport enthusiasts and maniaplanet's foothold in the competition scene.

We are working on other priorities at the moment.

When you look at the biggest lan in France, Shootmania is the game with the most team registered, while the game is far from having similar comparison online, by far. So, I believe we should also concentrate on having a great number of players. It does not mean to make the game less competitive, but that it requires us to work on many other aspects at the moment. And we expect these other aspects to be more mature within 2 months. After, it will depend on re-evaluating the priorities.

Keep also in mind that the competitive system has been made with the idea to make it possible for other players to do. So, if there are more players, there could also be more and more tools to arrive by them. Some players are already making some.

Some tools are also being made around the world, such as this:
http://www.oxent.net/toornament/

And I agree, Shootmania would be cool with such system in addition. The first version of ManiaCup ran many many tournaments itself, hosted by slig.

:1010 Hylis! Nice to see a gold post from the man himself. On a semi-unrelated question, I have recently moved (due to job things) to a bigger city and a university town. Now, that means young, college-age gamers. :P Maybe you can see where I'm going with this. When the weather gets warm and it's summer out, would you be willing to send me a copy of a poster or something I could hang around my town for Maniaplanet/TM/SM, etc? Word of mouth is the best advertiser, and if I could get some stuff out about Maniaplanet, I'm sure it would take off! ^_^

Thanks for a quick answer Hylis. I suspected that other priorities were currently focused at the moment, but thank you for clarifying that. Having a heavily community driven game can be positive in many ways, but when we are talking about such an important integrated function (in my opinion) I would rather see it done properly by the developer, built into the maniaplanet system and menus, instead of an external project that relies on unofficial up-time/maintenance. It's healthy to have faith in the power of the community, but I think one has to draw a line at the point where relying on the community will considerably affect the success of the game. This sounds a bit too risky if you ask me, so I'm really hoping for NADEO to pick up this one as a priority later this year :1010

As for the ShootMania competition, it's great to see the popularity of the game for offline events in France and I only hope for the best possible future for both ShootMania and TrackMania in competitions.

ESL & OXENT are companies, not only community

we are making a game that is really efficient for competition for many reasons. So, it's not only having faith with community, but it's simply having into esport and companies that thrives to make it even more possible for many games. we nearly always develop our features to see how they can connect to ESL or other systems. If more and more players arrive, these system will also look at connecting to our system, to make things more automated. And then, it would be better for all sides: ESL (they have a link with the players) US (more time for other topics) YOU (best of both world)

But it takes time. look at toornament, and see how it's good to have an external system as well.
