Some questions before buying Trackmania Canyon
Though I've researched it online, I just want to confirm; Can I play this without an internet connection, because I'm usually in situations where I can't use the internet or I'm away from home.

Re: Some questions before buying Trackmania Canyon
Sorry Haagse, but that is incorrect.
Without an internet connection you do not have access to the campaign in solomode. You cannot earn medals in solo mode, in fact, you don't even get into the menu for it. The only access you have is in local play, which does not contribute towards solomode medals or rankings.
Similarly, ManiaPlanet will check if you have recently connected your stations while online, and if you have not done so after a specified period, you cannot play whatsoever. You will be completely locked out with an error message stating you need to connect to update the title pack. It's something of a placeholder message, however, indicating you simply have not connected recently enough.
I tend not to play much on weekends, so oftentimes on Mondays I'll try to jump into offline play for a quick Stadium or Valley play only to find out I cannot even load the title.
So with that said, yes, you absolutely need a consistent internet connection to play any TrackMania 2. Maybe not everyday, but atleast every couple of days you need to connect. The exact time period would have to be confirmed by Nadeo. I've read a couple threads on this forum and Steam forum of people with similar experiences.

Re: Some questions before buying Trackmania Canyon
Okay thx for the headsup Edk.
I could imagine you need to update sometimes but that you needed to have Internet just to play solomode is new to me.
Nevertheless i would say you can allways try as it is fun to play.
If you buy it before the 30th of june in steam you even get a discount of 40%.
But like Edk said it will be hard to play it offline.

Re: Some questions before buying Trackmania Canyon
if you don't have constant internet connection, I'd rather suggest Trackmania United Forever. maybe a bit more expensive, but it has 7 environments instead of 1, and solo campaign is fully playable offline.

You can still play without a connection
Go into local play
select single map and you can hunt tracks that you have dl from MX or servers etc
OR
*you could set up a Local network and add the solo maps to your playlist and play them that way.
* Correct me if im wrong please, im uploading some files and cant test the game from restart at present.

Re: Some questions before buying Trackmania Canyon
When you enter offline mode and go into local play the entire campaign is there seperated by difficulty in folders. None of your times or medals while played in local play will count in the solomode when you are connected.
However, and please if you guys haven't actually tested, don't misinform the OP, you will become locked out of your game after a short time if you do not connect. You will not be able to even load the title, let alone play local play, if you do not connect somewhat frequently. In my experience this is less than a week, perhaps even 48 hours, but Nadeo would have to indicate the exact period of time.
I.E. if you're in the military or similar, and/or having a potential to go several weeks without connection due to circumstances, then do not count on being able to play TrackMania 2 for that entire time.
Now, don't get me wrong, I highly recommend TrackMania 2 as a game, but the DRM here is as restrictive as I have ever seen for a game that can be played locally. Fortunately, I'm online and have access whenever I need, not to mention am used to Steam and Origin, so it's not an issue for me.

Re: Some questions before buying Trackmania Canyon
Thanks for all your replies, since the general consensus is that I will need a connection to play I'm probably going to hold on to my money until the last day of the summer sale to see if there will be a flash sale or something of the sort.
Thanks, I'll look into it.Omnixor wrote:if you don't have constant internet connection, I'd rather suggest Trackmania United Forever. maybe a bit more expensive, but it has 7 environments instead of 1, and solo campaign is fully playable offline.
