You don't need to see the weapon, and it's better for the customization with the MediaTracker and ManiaScript for us.wiidesire-2 wrote:banjee wrote:I said that I wasnt sure, so lets not jump to conclusions too fast. I agree with you though, it is somehow reassureing to see your weapon right in front of you on your screen.

Because you can put elements on all the screen without problems, the interface with maniascript can put elements, information on the screen...
And for the switch of weapons, Nadeo doesn't need to make an animation.
In a FPS where you have only few weapons, you don't need to see the weapon (here the arm), the sight is sufficient.

Seing the weapon is very important for these reasons :
-There is a big debate with cs/css because those 2 games have a different angle for the display of the weapon. And if you are a hardcore gamer, you know that this weapon is very usefull for reflex shots, because you can use it as a landmark.
-For immersion. I mean come on, I'm a huge shooter fan, and not seing the weapon makes me think that the game is bad and not finished, even if it's not the case.
-Why not ?

Don't see a problem, with not being able to view the opponents/my own weapon. You only need your target cross and that's it. I mean, fancy weapons are always great, if they fit the game. For example, PainKiller would only be half so funny without your stakegun or project I.G.I without the Spas 12/Jackhammer/Dragunov? But to be honest, for me the fun wasn't to see the weapons by them-self, but to see what kind of projectile they shoot and how they killed the opponents.
And if SM is goodly executed, you don't need to see the weapon if the animation of the shoot and the "killing" (which isn't really a killing) is great. For sure a nice weapon might be a good start, but at the moment you add a weapon you upgrade the game and it becomes less accessible for younger players.

Re: need gameplay video!
You would like very important reasons, yes? Okay, how about this?
1) It gives the player a sense of immersion. Instead of just watching a screen with crosshairs and a little wobble to simulate running, there is actual arms and a gun model, even if that's all that's ever animated (as it is in many FPS's...no full player model, just the arms.)
2) It's about 20 years BEHIND technologically to -not- do this.
3) It's not like they would have to do anything crazily complicated. Simply put the camera where the players eyes would be. Voila. Done. The only logic I can see for doing this is if they're going to allow wild models like they do in Trackmania. But then again, if that's the case, simply require another point be added to model-building, which would be the 1st person camera anchor.
4) It gives the game a sense of realism, and no, I don't mean realism like Battlefield or COD, I mean realism like it "feels" real in general. Trackmania could never happen IRL. At least not yet
But the way that the physics meshes with the excellent graphics and the little details they paid attention to, make it -feel- real. They seem to be doing none of that in Shootmania. No gun model, the bullet--ahem, excuse me. I mean, energy blast. It simply appears in the middle of the screen and flies out. THAT's really realistic. And again, refer to point 2. No game since the polygon-drawn games of the 80s have done it this way.

Wait, so what you are saying is that in the mediatracker, the characters doesnt have anything in their hands?
Only "beams" coming out of their hands?

@Trackmaniack totally agree
but one correction, the graphics from SM/TM2 are not excellent, they are just good.
I am laughing my ass off when I run this game with 110 fps
, no seriously some other games have way better graphics
