Besides that, I did not always think like I do now. Facebook and Twitter are just overdoing it with sharing every poop of your life on the net, in my opinion. Quite easy for everyone (if secret service or just a stupid advertisement spammer) to create full personal profiles just by the data everyone spreads on the net voluntarily.

Well, I do have twitter but I only use it for youtube autosharing when I upload something

I still remember the first time I played TMUF in the beta, I ended up in a server with you at like 5/6am in the morning. Haha.

Btw I had a thought on this topic a few days ago, forgot about it, now remembered. Rather than make it like facebook why not make it like PSN / xbox live? By that I mean stuff like a message saying when people sign into the game, messages when they send you something, messages for inviting to a server, etc. etc. Maybe they could do voice chat too, although it can be quite distracting to talk to people whilst driving at 3-400km/h

The talking is not the problem. The problem is that nowadays every program tries to force you to tell the world things that you don't want to tell. Who cares if i'm connected to the game and working on my map? In my opinion, the game should only say a person is online, if the person is really online and playing on a server. Else this has nothing to do with me playing.
And about the whole notification stuff. If this is implemented, then please let us be able to define groups in your friends list and define which group is allowed to read notifications and which kind of notifications (e.g. drove a new record or released a new map).

I think a simple home with minimal intrusion like the TMUF Interface is a reasonable way to go and would likely please most users. Although ManiaPlanet will likely aggregate a lot of Trackmania life, I do worry it will try to over do it and follow on the wave of a social network trend.

While the current system isnt perfect, a better buddy chat system with real time chat with friends not in the same server, a step up from the current system, would likely be a welcome improvement.

Look at ManiaHome, it's already that. And i've been soft with this example: i didn't bother you with all nicknames or avatar changes and varied useless stuff.

According to me, the notifications system should be filtered in order to remove all the shit we don't care. At least:

- Enable the players to hide all the AUTOMATIC notifications (i.e each time the guy at the source didn't DECIDE to send something to all his buddylist).
- Enable the players to prevent the system to send such automatic notifications to all their buddylist
- Enable the players to hide the notifications or message who come from somebody who send too much ones.
- Give players some tools to find the information they need in this huge maze. For instance "When did TheRevengerOfDarthVader54 joined TheBadBoys group ?" (If this happened one year ago, impossible to find the date "by hand")

Would remain only news whose source believe they are important.

More interesting imho would be a clan management system, as suggested by Tcq:

Lots of useful features (way more useful than the shit i wrote before) are suggested in this topic... But it seems Nadeo isn't willing to implement them all in TM2. Since this talk is kinda old, maybe Nadeo changed its mind since then. It could be useful to relaunch this topic.

@ Romain - that's why I somewhat suggested the xbox live-style system, because the only notifications you get are when you get a message, and when you get an invite to a game or a chat party.

Everything else - such as seeing what buddies are doing - can be viewed manually, but it never automatically tells you what they're doing. It stops the game you're playing being cluttered with useless and distracting messages, but still lets you check what people are up to when you want to check.


Maybe the xbox live system isn't the best, but I've been playing xbox for a while now and I've just ended up becoming accustomed to the networking system it has. I personally despise Facebook-style "tell the world everything you're doing in automatic updates that nobody really wants to see", mostly because 99% of them are spam and then the sheer amount of them are enough that something important (such as an important message about something) can be missed.
