well i would think that if you realise it only by "brightening" the textures on the walls etc., players that stand in front of these bright walls would look dark as if there would be no light

I dont really know how this system works, but i guess there has to be some sort of cubemap environment map projected on to characters, i suppose that it switches from one map to another when you change your location, like when you are outside at the sun its 1 cubemap, when you enter a tunnel it changes to a different one, so maybe it will take in to account brightness changes as well, or maybe i'm expecting too much from this game:)
Anyways it would be great to have individual light sources without any geometry attached to it and abbility to control wether its static or dynamic, color/tint, intensity etc(just like in 3d application)
