Tell me if I'm wrong .
This will help to popularize the game, his will before all the marketing side. Implement a matchmaking system like Starcraft 2? With a league system.
Why not, I think his work well, but we must first bring the players. But you really Maniaplanet that innovates with a matchmaking system or other game modes.

But the main problem for Nadeo, to support the community like you're asking for, is simply a matter of resources.
Exactly. Their resources got even more limited after throwing themselves into this ambitious maniaplanet project and moving all their efforts from their successful stadium title over to an fps, which market is already pretty fed up in terms of esport. Looking at the numbers of connected players on the maniaplanet titlepacks a couple of days ago made me realize how little progress has been made since the launch. Peak for all on Maniaplanet in the last 24 hours was 830, peak in TMUF was over 4000...
TMarc wrote:If Nadeo had never released the dedicated server, it would be different, and then they simply would need to provide servers in several countries to have players.
So Instead, they give the tools and the rules for ladder servers.
The dedicated server is there to enable players to create servers in their own countries.
But like for events, the players have to organize themselves.
Dedicated or not, the main issue is that we never had a proper server tool that was optimized for competitions, official matches and statistics. This is one of the parts where I believe Nadeo definitely should have invested time in developing something proper a long time ago instead of handing it over to the community.

So if the community (here I'm including both Nadeo and the users!) is partially failing already at the basics, how should a good e-sportive community raise up?
I can't really see what the community (users) is failing at. The TrackMania community constantly get commented on for being one of the best and friendliest ones out there, yet it seems we continue bashing our heads against a wall of limitations and missing developer support. The community is definitely great when it comes to user created contents as of late, with the titlepack possibilities and all the creativity maniaplanet provides to us. But this simply does nothing towards pushing the e-sport part of the game forward.

It does not only depend on Nadeo, it also depend a lot on the players.
IMO the main problem is that Nadeo does not realise just HOW MUCH the community has done for them over the last 10 years. All the mapping, the server modding, the skin designing, is an uncountable ammount of work that Nadeo would never have the manpower to do.
You released more or less an engine and the community provided the content. And the community was very happy about it.
With TM2 though, the delivering of the engine was just too slow and in too many too small pieces. The very least they should have had is the gamemode with all enviroments combined. I still dont get why that was not ready with the release of the second enviroment.
So the community loses interest, and by now maybe 10% of it is left. Nadeo had such a big fanbase and such a big following, and keeping them should have been the absolute nr 1 priority cause they made the game work.
Maybe, maybe you get some people back if you make Stadium 2 free to play like nations was. Then release a cheap tm2United with all 3 envis, give this for free to anyone who allready bought one of the 3. Scrap the valley and canyon separate envis and have people either play tm2united or free2play stadium. Then maybe we see the servers fill up again.
As it is now, there are more players on one nations server than on all tm2 combined...

It's not "little progress". It's huge regress. Canyon servers were full when canyon came out. So were valley servers and tm2 stadium servers. But only for 2-3 months, and since then the player numbers have been dropping consistently.

That's a cycle that happens to every multiplayer game. There's a lot of interest at the start and then some players lose their interest. I've been involved a little bit in developing a multiplayer shooter last fall and I saw the same thing play out there... except there I haven't found any game with more than one player (me) for months.
I'm not a big fan of how Nadeo is handling titles either but I understand why they're doing it this way and why there might be some mistakes along the way.

This! I've also said this before. Unite all 3 envs and put custom title packs in a seperate place. And close TM1 Stadium. Oh and I get dizzy when I read the MP3 change log so stop adding bells and whistles that noone ever notices and focus your energy on simplicity and unity. And never change an environment so creations stop working or become buggy (I heard hylis say he was thinking of doing this even more in the future). Nations Forever was buggier then Nations ESWC and TM2: Stadium is buggier then Nations Forever. Apart from new blocks, changes only made the game worse. Somehow I think Nadeo should have never made Canyon and Valley nor SM but instead spent all their effort on Stadium since 2006. Just one environment, no ways to separate the community. Everyone, newbs, pro's, creators, drivers, can focus 100% on one env. The ultimate simplicity would have made and kept TM as big as CS and LOL! But thats too late now.

because the are good guys

maybe they could get more people to TM2S when they would close TMN and TMNF but i don't think its worth it in the long run. Maybe TMNF has a much bigger user base because on older computers TM2 does not run smoothly enough. I think they know that TMNF is their biggest competitor.
I don't play other racing games but it would be interesting to know player numbers of other racing games like 1 year after release. I bet nobody does even come close to TMNF + TM2. Which indicates that there are probably not much more gamers interested in online racing games. At different times different games are popular now is the time of MOBAs lets see what the next big thing is. TBH if u like TM2 play it there are always servers with 15+ people on it

Nadeo should close TM2 and give TM a new try with TM3 !
IMHO Nadeo has spent too much time developping a whole planet (maniaplanet), but also has lost the view on those who just want to play trackmania. I dont really need and i dont even use maniaplanet.
I like TM original and i like Sunrise, but I wanted to play both and Nadeo made it possible this with TMUF. But I really don't understand what they've done with TM2. Instead of building a solid base to union the community they separate them, split them up. And the mixed environment mode of TM2 forces only a further split. So noone has to ask why there are mostly empty server-lists.
And I'm very sad about this because I like playing the environments in TM2 more than in TM1 due to the better physically modelling.
I don't think Nadeo could this fix within TM2 easily. But mistakes happens and no one should worry too much about them and sometimes you have to make hard brake and just restart ...
