Trackmania Nations was not just "treated like" a free game", it is a free game, conceived for E-Sports, namely the ESWC, and to allow access for everyone.

I recommend you to watch the interviews that were recorded around and during the 10 years Trackmania party, and the interviews around the Gamers Assembly, especially the interviews with Hylis and Mr. Guillemot, who had the common idea of Nations, if I remember correctly.

Long time, also in the beginning of Maniaplanet, Hylis was speaking of TMN as the only demo of Trackmania in general, as the basic game principle is the same in Trackmania².

And you are ignoring that since several years already, Maniaplanet features a unlimited multiplayer demo and a time restriction mode.
The official page still writes that mulitplayer acess to Trackmania² Stadium and ShootMania Storm is there until September 2015, but ingame, it says now "Open Winter! Demo time unlimited!".
So there is actually no need to claim another free game or title.
Regarding price and availability of TMUF or any other older Trackmania game, this is really the wrong forum here.
We should push Maniaplanet here, nothing else ;)
However, about future Maniaplanet Trackmania² titles, we can't tell much, except that there will be Lagoon next year, but nobody knows how it will look like, without all the fancy TMT stuff :?

Demo mode and time restriction mode is sufficient to try out the game to see it.
But to always aks for anything to be free is wrong, this will destroy the market for good products on a long term.
i know it was realeased as it own standalone game, it was also a crippled version of 1 of the 7 environments in a game released 6 months later with ads/freezones (Discover United) and without some other features.

but i'm not trying to argue if it's free or a demo, what i'm saying it worked really well for nadeo making 1 environment Trackmania Nations and not a Trackmania United Demo, if you go to Steam and search for trackmania you will see TMNF it's listed as a free game, TM2 as a full game and a demo and that changes everything, someone looking for a free game might find Nations Forever but not TM2, the universal demo might be just generous as the free game Nations Forever but there is no way of knowing that until trying out, nobody expects a demo to be like a free game.

talking about TMU is relevant because of what i said about bringing the TM2 advertising back

you say there is no need for it to be free because of the demo time limit and open winter, you realize those conditions turns Canyon, Valley and Shoomania essentially into free games right? i could play as much as i want and never pay for it , the open winter strikes me as a desperate move removing all those restrictions to get as many players as they can, yet TM2 arent truly free games. i think if one environment was a true free game it would be more successful than the universal demo and open winter.

browser898, i think that idea would be bad for the current games because everything is already free, i think Turbo would benefit from it though

In the meaning to bring much more people to Trackmania²@Maniaplanet, I agree.

Unfortunately for this, Nadeo and Ubisoft chose to release TMT, and as we know, it is a separate community under the hood of Trackmania. No connection between TMT and Maniaplanet servers, a different forum, and many other things we have to discover yet.

so how some games are free but have premium account while trackmania 2 does the same thing except it's considered a full game with a demo?

if Nadeo could remove and put back the TM2s and SM and put it back as a free game...
