1) People asking for help as they are newcomers
2) People creating new accounts on the fly just to spam/terrorise channels while being in no fear of getting banned as they can simply create a new account.

If I compare this to populations, I will definitely go for the option to not allow chat for demo players. Because the small minority of 2) is enough to dishearten new players joining a game.
Spammers and trollers are few. I never met one of them or only angry people who had custom nicknames meaning they bought the game.
TMNF has a chat open to all and insults were quite uncommon so this is not a reason to disable the chat.

I was never dishearten due to stupid guys. You're right, a deteriored community isn't nice but insulters / trollers are not so much on ShootMania / TrackMania and if one day a huge amount of player was insulting our community, maybe this system could be re-enabled.

Why should new players be punished because of this minority ? Still thinking this restriction should be removed because it's frustrating for new players and servers feels empty. A chat is really important to communicate especially in team modes :)

I'd like to express my opinion on this matter as well.
I too think that there is more arguments in favour of giving demo accounts permission to interact with the chat.

Just add a basic "mute that players" function on the chat ffs ... Let the people chat, and if someone feels like insulting you, you mute him, end of the story, that should be something basic in every game that has a chat...

that's a good idea, probably nicer than a direct ban.
But how to have such muted players apologize or calm down?
Or do you want them to quit the server, frustrated?

Ok, there could be a mute message: "You have been muted. Please behave and calm down!".

Btw, the mute should not be removed as soon as they disconnect and reconnect. There should be a delay, perhaps even daily.

I guess such thing could be implemeted in the server controller.

Can be done via the Ignore methods (which XAseco2 supported, but that's irrelevant now -- possibly other controllers support them too).

Well if he starts insulting everybody I don't know I should worry about him getting frustated. You're not in a good mood then don't play the game instead of being toxic. I would not warn him that he got muted, just let him write useless lines on the chat until he's tired. I'd maybe let him know if he got muted by the whole server by a mod/admin, but not if muted by a single player.

Yeah would be a good solution.
