You bet your little white cotton socks it would lol

Pity TM2 wasnt brought out as a free demo version first with a time limit on the play and the save function in Painter switched off. Just to give people a chance to sample before they commit to buy

Look--I'm not 100% sold on TM2 yet either. But (I think it was eyebo) made a good point earlier today. What we're seeing isn't an unfinished standalone game, but the first piece of a larger Maniaplanet puzzle. With each title new pieces are added to the puzzle, and maybe the puzzle itself will get bigger. But in the timeframe that they had, Nadeo did a bang-up job of making TM2 the best game possible.

Yeah, I agree with you Trackmaniack. I showed a friend of mine (who had never heard of mania planet) the youtube video explaining MP and he thought it was a great idea and would look into it, especially for shoot mania. (as far as i know there isn't any decent FPS that allows you to create your own map and then play it online with others.

I think the numbers of players in Mania Planet will increase steadily throughout the months/years top come.

hmmm naive thing to say.

If there's 38000 people playing TM2 they must all be hiding in the editor...

Oh right, what other games allow creation of maps for a FPS?

And yeah, they could be hiding there, or in the solo tracks. I would probably have a go at those first... a little bit of training before going online

It's not a question about games allowing map creation, but the level of proficiency required to use the tools. It's been possible for people to build their own Team Fortress 2 maps, and some of those custom maps have since been adopted as official maps my Valve. But the work involved in creating those maps is generally enough to deter all but the tiniest minority to even try. That, and for game balancing purposes mean that custom map servers are a distinct minority.

I'm only using TF2 as an example. There are other FPSes out there that allow for map creation, but just not necessarily using layman-friendly tools.

i think the community will increase with the time, too.

TM2: Canyon is a great opening for Maniaplanet (still some problems...loops *cough* wallrides *cough*), but it is just 1 envi at the moment. So it's not that huge game even if the possibilitys in the editor are awsome. I think at the moment TM2 is just like an updated TM which you can play some time instead of TMNF or TMUF.
But when the other envis will be released and also the first envis of shootmania and questmania (if they're going to be good games), the playerbase will increase dramatically. There is no shooter where a layman can build own maps and play them online. In the RPG section it's the same. And beside the included editor, you can create models with external programs. So what we get is a community based playerportal where the future is in the hands of the community.
Just give it some time. TM2 rocks, even with the loop/wallride problems. If the quality of the other games/envis will be the same, there is coming something great to us :)

Yes, but how many of those maps have an easily accessible editor, like the Mania series is known for? None. I tried the Halo editor--it's -way- too complicated for casual map-makers...

Ah, that would explain why some of my friends had never heard of an FPS in-game map editor... well, Nadeo have done well in this too then.

May the community grow and grow!
