who needs them anyway?!

Exactly. That just distracts the user, while reading the posts and stretchs the threads -_-

Nah you can easily identify the poster after a while, by his avatar, in a glimpse, without the need of reading his name.
Also if your avatar is over the maximum size, you can host your image file on another site and use the link as your avatar.

Well, I'm fine with avatars (unless they are animated). On signatures, however, I completely agree. Usually ugly and distracting.^^

I agree on disabling signatures. It keeps things less cluttered. It's nice the first time you see someone post, but then it just wastes visual space. It's better for people to keep "that stuff" in their profile.
I'm indifferent in regards to avatars, as long as they're not obscene (which is against the rules anyway).

I like having a signature. It can be useful for someone like me. For example: I'm promoting my tracks on TMX and showing people my TM-login so that they recognize me more ingame.
I could also use it to advertise for my music work, or something similar.
Or I could just make a nice picture to put there which shows more about who I am and what I'm about.

Avatars are quite good to identifier posts easier, but signatures not. They are just annoying if everyone promotes his own things in them.^^

Your signature isn't bad QuikSilver (neither is sammon's).

I was mainly thinking of the big image based ones. I guess I should have specified that. But those huge image based ones are disallowed by the rules anyway... so it's all good.

i'm just fine with signatures consisiting of one line. i mean, i've got one now as well.
and i agree, images or big signatures are a no-no for me, it's just distracting. especially if that person posts a lot.
