You certainly can expect complete map size to be same as Canyon (32x32 blocks).
I think we have to keep in mind the blocks themselves are probably smaller. I don't know if it's still the case, but at one time Hylis told here on the forums that the blocks for ShootMania were going to be 8x8 meters in size. That's in contrast to Desert, Snow, Rally, Bay, and Stadium which all have 32x32 meter blocks, Coast which has 16x16 meter blocks, or Island & Canyon which have 64x64 meter blocks.

So, having smaller blocks means the building space might be the same number of blocks, but physically smaller because our character is smaller. And that's okay, because I assume we won't be running at speeds equal to those of the Island and Canyon cars. It's all relative to the physics of the environment really.

I think we just can't judge it very well right now. We'll have to wait and see how it actually feels.

The blocks in SM should be smaller since it would be boring to have a small guy having to walk across much bigger blocks, no?
Also smaller blocks ≙ more diversity

If you take another look at the screendump i made of the movie, then look at the tree selected, just measure and count from the left towards the middle.. you'll notice it's 16 trees fitting from left to mid so from mid to right it's 16 as well. which means this view actually IS 32*32.

If this was a game of athletics i would agree to this eyebo.. but here we are talking about a shooter.
(which needs a few big size spaces to create chokepoints + walls thick enough to prevent from ricochet bullets)

Witht he current size it's gonna be like someone's trying to shoot you from a platform while you try to take cover on a beach.

In other words 10 steps before you spot an enemy .. Which is way too early.

I think it will be possible to make mazes are create the illusion of distance. i am not worried about map size after all look at the map sizes in cod4.

I wanna build like i did in cs. blend the actionpath with the surroundings and make it feel natural instead of a concrete box of chaos.
It might be too small for military sim style FPS games, but with a little scenic work larger maps that take place in valleys, canyons and forests can be faked.

I'll definitely be using Shootmania as a test bed for concept maps for my own game.

I think it would be possible to make giant maps, knowing that the server slots will surely be unlimited like in TM2( Would be logical, it's all maniaplanet).

What makes the size of maps?
Canyon has enough blocks width to make relatively large maps already.
Now consider the cars would not run this fast but like a tractor, the map would feel huge ;)

And this is finally how SM/QM will feel like... because of walking speed

i think he is saying that he think the player model will be the same scale as the car in canyon. it is interesting to think about the size changing because that reminds me of enviromixing with coast. :P
