There's never an answer to types like these. <_< It's their way or the highway. It's either Steam or it's OMG I CAN'T BUY IT LOOK AT MI 1337 SKILLZ WITH THE CAPSLOCK". Even though he didn't use capslock. >_>
*ahem*
Point being, it's simple to get a non-steam game onto steam...and it wouldn't really generate -that- much more influx of players, as we've seen. I think the -biggest- two problems hampering TM2 right now are: 1) lack of optimization for those with low-end or less-than-top-of-the-line systems, and 2) lack of advertisement. I don't know how it is over in Europe (sorry about that :-? ) But here in the States, if you know what channels to go to, you can always find ads for the latest videogame, even semi-obscure ones...like SkyDrift (an obscure game that's a Spiritual Successor to Plane Crazy). Anyway, with a -massive- studio like Ubi, they would just need to crank out maybe a million dollars to get a big ad campaign going here. Unless they're too occupied with AC:Revelations....which could be. >_< In which case, I would be very sad, as AC:R already -has- a huge following and is already well-known.

Advertising would defeat their new business model, which is to make 9 games as cheaply as possible using the same engine and sell them to old time fans. They can make a profit by ensuring the cost of making each game is as low as possible, so even a low number of sales doesn't matter.

Advertising costs a lot of money, so they won't do it.

What about releasing it on Steam? That would most likely generate a lot of sales! Including for me!

It's too bad though, I really want this game, but I still only buy games on Steam :(

Probably trusting the retailer. That's kind of important online.
That isn't to say there aren't measures you can take to ensure your identity's safety when you buy something from a retailer you're not sure about trusting.

You could well be right there Fox .. Thats about 10 people I've heard that won't buy it unless it's on Steam :? ... Personally I prefer not to have steam tho sales would go up I believe.

Trusting the retailer? Really? In this era of online data farming? That would be funny if it wasn't so alarming. Steam sells your data to more 3rd parties than does Nadeo's retailer--want proof?
1) Download Firefox
2) Get the Collusion add-on.
3) Tremble in fear as you realize that every mouse-click you make is being sold and profited on, no matter where you go.

And the really scary part about Steam is, that while they have some morals regarding to whom they sell your data, they still give it to the online equivalent of big-box stores, such as Facebook, Google, and doubleclick.net, all of which do -not- care who gets their hands on your data--just watch after a day of surfing, how many lines go in and out of the three aforementioned sites, and you may quickly decide to forego the internet completely.

Yeah, but when I said trusting the retailer I meant trusting that it was secure enough that some random person won't intercept your purchase, take your credit card number, and proceed to spend all your money on $1000.00 shoes from Brazil (or whatever).

This is my personal opinion of course, but I don't mind targeted advertising. It makes the ads I see so much less annoying because they're all relevant to me.
Plus, I'm completely in control of how much of my personal information I put out on the internet and give to places like Steam. If I'm not comfortable sharing something on a site that asks for it specifically, I have no qualms about making it up :D.
I like to think I'm completely in control of what I buy as well. Advertisements might give me ideas, but they don't dictate my life for me. No matter how much their makers might want them too.
