*Sigh*

...what is it with people and not being able to look at the big picture?

^ The Big Picture is not much activity and not many players.

To get more players? Yes, that is one of their goals...
Yes but not many now and zero after. Nadeo thinks on sereval years. We need to wait some months, ManiaPlanet will be stronger will MP 2.0, Storm, Valley and other environments after.
That's what i think too. There will be an continuously influx of players in the future. And you will get more diversity after the second environment is released.

metoxys wrote:That is a good question actually. What can be bought from the mall then?
I mean, car upgrades will cause all true TM players to murder the person with that idea.
Maps are downloadable on TMX, skins on Maniapark.
Additional blocks? How is that going to work when other players play those maps?
That's not the big picture, which is why I sighed.

Ideas can be thought of, that's not the problem. The problem is, exactly like you said, the number of players.

Coppers, planets, they have never been used properly (for example)...

I was hoping for some discussion about the original post... not another threat of rants towards how we need to wait the arrival of MP 2.0 and SM...

I hope you are right, but i fear you are wrong. The people that bought TM2 wont all buy Storm. The people that didnt buy TM2 and still race TMNF or TMUF wont buy Storm either. Check http://www.tm-forum.com/index.php if you see any discussion amongst them if they are eager to buy Storm, i didnt find anything recent.
Maybe some people will buy Storm who like shooters, but if there is no advertising like there is now, how will they ever know? So how can you can expect that the upcoming platform will be strong? Will there be a huge campaign lifted by Ubisoft? Because there is only 1 remedie for this, and that's advertising advertising. advertising.

TM2 is sadly enough getting less visitors each day. Just a few moments ago, there were only 5 people playing on the 28 servers in the Netherlands. I hope that is not caused by the lack of dutch opponents because only 2.439 players bought the game in holland, while there is a potential market of 100 thousands. We are still trying to promote TM2 in the Netherlands, by informing all our contacts, family, relatives etc. We already have made 2 live shows on a dutch digital TV-station and helped them with providing a server just to promote TM2 http://www.gamer01.nl/news/155-Woensdag ... bij-101-TV . Sadly enough the show isn't watch by a wide audience but better then no promo at all.

So the upcoming platform build by Nadeo can be strong, but it still misses 1 major thing and that is advertisement.
I hope Nadeo can move Ubisoft to lift Maniaplanet to higher level, and starts a huge campaign.

Well promotion is important, but F2P games usually have promotions on AdSense and work very well, cause the first thing you read is "Play for Free".

For SM, i don't think the few players way of combat is good enough to port players to tm.
If the max is 4vs4 or 6vs6, nobody will know of TM2 even if Maniaplanet 2.0 will connect the 2 games.
Example :

Gekko buy SM.
Gekko enter SM.
Gekko play, after 10 days he get boored of 1vs1 and max 6vs6 (cause he want at least 64vs64)...
Gekko see the advertise of TM2 and think "lol i buy it"...
Gekko call a friend that have already TM2, the friend answer no players on it, don't buy it.
Gekko abandon Maniaplanet 2.0 and return to play ARMA 3.

This is just an example on how work the "asking to a friend" about how many players populate the game.

On a F2P game this is not needed, cause there are always new players.

I see some strange figures from community and developer.

Ubisoft/Nadeo states fully that digital downloads are ok/good in there opinion.

see source:

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/intervie ... oft/090411

The community states it isnt. Why:

Well players/ads/revenues/servers not full are things the community states.

Problem however in the whole picture is trust and faith in developers.

As seen in the past look at other developers. They made games that where promising but due to the fact that the game didnt bring what people want it didnt sell properly.

After time it grew and came better.

Just think Ubisoft doesn't have a voice actually in Nadeo but the community has but at the end Nadeo makes the choices.

Ubisoft just came in to give maniaplanet a jumping platform to grow big.

Maniaplanet 1.0/2.0 is something that other games do not have. 3 of the biggest genres in one console window.

Just give Maniaplanet time and ease off with the thoughts of ads.

If you really want this game to be big as community try to look at the "tools" provided by nadeo.

People like gadgets for instance so make competitions and give them to the winners.

That will attract new players and new things.

About empty servers:

Why did the community make so much servers because they want full servers.

But karma took an action and made the server admins with a face of sadness.

Just think 653 servers and only 15+- servers where players are on.

Which means that the other servers are useless but we want to have players with good tracks.

Alot of players have a own kind of style or gamemode they like!!!!

hope this doesn't wake any angry person.

1) Make it F2P with item mall (now is standard, for great games. Without, you don't sell)
2) Make the server can be bought with money in the item mall (2,50€ / month)
3) Re-Enable the video decoder in game
4) Don't focus on ManiaLive (too low interest if players connected are 300 every day)
5) Sell new ENV into the item mall for lower price Ex.: 5€
6) Casual players don't mind of great sponsored tournament, they wanna play with a "mountain" of challengers.
1) ..... a sudden change to F2P? Item mall? Use your brains! An item mall for TM? >_>. And most F2P games are simple: P2W (Pay to win). It just doesn't work for a game like TM.
2) ..? We host servers ourself, why do we need to buy them?
3) No idea what it is.
4) It's rare to see you make a good point, but I totally agree here.
5) .. no, it's clear they get sold for 20 eur/each now.
6) ??????

I'll never understand you.

Casual players don't give a damn about ESL and stuff. Look at things like Mario Kart, for example (lol), would people care about some tournament?
So, atm TM is really only consisting of small LAN tournaments (see GEEX for example even though I've no idea how big it was) or leagues (ESL). However, the casual gamer doesn't care.

Look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It's basically like a MW2 addon but it still sells VERY properly. At $60 each!
