Heh, agreed... but I'm just running on a box I have at home and that's the license I have for it. Should the servers get popular enough and I have the need to go outside of hosting out of my home, I would look into something else, but since the server itself is 32-bit and my machine is behind my firewall and xml-rpc is locked down, I haven't worried about it much. Now if Nadeo leaves some exploitable hole in the server where the clients connect, I guess I might be in trouble, but it's been fine so far.nocturne wrote:As far I've been able to tell, the memleak is only prevalent in *nix servers, though 250-350mb apiece seems like a bit much (besides the SMStorm server -- FPS servers involve much more processing). In Win8 x64, any test server I've set up barely gets past 90mb. Why are you still on XP btw..? Horribly outdated security and performance wise.. I charge an extra $15 an hour just to work on XP boxes for clients, hehe.fng_thatoneguy wrote:I think it's important to know what operating system each of you are running your servers on to see if these memory problems are linked to the code on a particular platform.
For example. I'll list the server info for my own. (Mine happen to be taking between 250-350MB each). . .OS: Windows XP Professional SP3...
In my case, server is running Centos6 x86_64 -- the most popular enterprise/server operating system out there.
I don't remember the servers didn't use as much memory until ShootMania beta 2; when they all increased their memory usage. I don't know if it would be different on Windows Server versus XP or not. The servers have done well though - I've mostly only seen problems when my own internet connection has been shoddy... which thankfully isn't very often. Still not as good as being on a hosted service or colocated, but it has met our needs.
All that aside, it sounds like there might be issues on both platforms, but not the same issue? The issue on Windows being that running ManiaPlanetServer.exe with TM: Time Attack using too much RAM for 50 players?
I think we'll get better response if we create a new topic specific to this with a title like:
[B3.1][MemLeak]Server uses too much RAM with > 50 players
(something like that ... the title doesn't allow a large length.)
I'd do it, but I'm suffering a major migraine right now. If someone hasn't done it by the time I feel better, I'll be happy to start it.
I imagine it should be started here:
