For example. I'll list the server info for my own. (Mine happen to be taking between 250-350MB each). . .OS: Windows XP Professional SP3...
As far I've been able to tell, the memleak is only prevalent in *nix servers, though 250-350mb apiece seems like a bit much (besides the SMStorm server -- FPS servers involve much more processing). In Win8 x64, any test server I've set up barely gets past 90mb. Why are you still on XP btw..? Horribly outdated security and performance wise.. I charge an extra $15 an hour just to work on XP boxes for clients, hehe.

In my case, server is running Centos6 x86_64 -- the most popular enterprise/server operating system out there.
Heh, agreed... but I'm just running on a box I have at home and that's the license I have for it. Should the servers get popular enough and I have the need to go outside of hosting out of my home, I would look into something else, but since the server itself is 32-bit and my machine is behind my firewall and xml-rpc is locked down, I haven't worried about it much. Now if Nadeo leaves some exploitable hole in the server where the clients connect, I guess I might be in trouble, but it's been fine so far.

I don't remember the servers didn't use as much memory until ShootMania beta 2; when they all increased their memory usage. I don't know if it would be different on Windows Server versus XP or not. The servers have done well though - I've mostly only seen problems when my own internet connection has been shoddy... which thankfully isn't very often. Still not as good as being on a hosted service or colocated, but it has met our needs.

All that aside, it sounds like there might be issues on both platforms, but not the same issue? The issue on Windows being that running ManiaPlanetServer.exe with TM: Time Attack using too much RAM for 50 players?

I think we'll get better response if we create a new topic specific to this with a title like:
[B3.1][MemLeak]Server uses too much RAM with > 50 players
(something like that ... the title doesn't allow a large length.)

I'd do it, but I'm suffering a major migraine right now. If someone hasn't done it by the time I feel better, I'll be happy to start it.

I imagine it should be started here:

lol don't think so :D
Current ranking says 1st is Debian, directly followed by CentOS ;-)

However, I tried to collect all imporant data out of this thread and wrote it down here (with the correct topic title^^)

http://forum.maniaplanet.com/viewtopic. ... 91#p154091

Please have a look at it if I missed anything. Maybe it would be better if you suggest optimazations here as we should not flood the report thread that much...

Cheers,

Nicely done Bueddl!
I think that will be most helpful to the devs, and hopefully filing it in that forum with the naming for at in the title will flag them to come investigate (if they aren't already.)

Thank you for putting that together!

You have to realize how game development is done nowadays, especially overseas. Small core group running the studio, which hires on and manages dozens of outsourced coders in nations like Russia or Korea (or in the case of here in the states, dozens of unpaid interns) strictly when needed to release a new product. I imagine most of their efforts are concentrated on fixing the bugs on the client-side of the upcoming retail releases of TMStadium and SMStorm (not to mention TMValley), so fixing problems that the majority of players never see is just the lowest of priorities.

On holiday.. well, certainly a possibility. Nadeo is french, so not exactly the same as us Americans who are happy for a week's vacation every year if we're lucky.. xD

Really though, there's no reason for xbx to constantly be on here consoling us.. I'm sure he's aware of the problem, but also sure there's plenty of other things he has to deal with on a daily basis.

All we can do is keep nagging, and hope we're not forgotten. After all, TM is absolutely nothing without all of us who create the online experience which keeps it going -- just hope they learn this lesson a hell of a lot quicker than they did with TMCanyon. No servers = no players. Get it, already..?

I talked to Alinoa and she told me, that xbx is workin gon a huge list of bugs, but there is currently no statement, when he will fix which bug and even not if he has that one on his todo list. But as both, Hylis and Alinoa told me, that they forwarded my intial messages to xbx, I think that it has finally arrived on his todo list.

So, let's wait for the upcoming release and we'll see then :)

hej XBX,
I am ok now with your pack system in dedicated, bcs it looks for me not realistic to get it without,
of course also bcs u don´t want it.
nevermind, as it is like it is, there could also be something better.
I wanted to solicit u to rewrite the code to let the programm only load the pack files for its environment it is running with.

thx

I suggest you to open a new thread in the beta reports subforum and post it with a title like
"[OpenBeta 3.1][DedicatedServer]Suggestion: ...", I think it will get lost else as this thread has already many posts..
