No, they were not. It was enjoyable to watch for a few which were aware enough about the game but others were mostly not attracted because it was just boring not knowing what's happening. It seems you're not caring at all about having a wide the audience. But without audience, you won't have big events forever.

please... :D
I watched my first quake match on stream while i didn't even know the game and i enjoyed it a lot.
And what audiance, SM will be lucky to have 1000 viewers for ESWC (compared to the 100 for a cup with prizes)

Remember : Maps need to be :

- Good looking /realistic scenery/ No random blocks

- Very little / no camping behaviour

Good luck meeting those criterias.

I've taken enough blame for things i'm not responsible for. I'm done here.

in spite of this post papy , so you selected assault him with cake, ricochet and mindcontrol wich are :

- Bad lookin /unrealistic/ tons of random blocks

- HUGE / camping still there

:)

edit: taking the blame i think it's part of the job , you don't have to be mad about it IMO

Coming from UT, I find that hard to believe. There isn't that much to know about UT besides the weapons, and you pick that up by watching. Perhaps some of the CTF concepts may be unfamiliar but duel/tdm is all about map control/timing/teamwork and those carry over to most shooters. CTF stuff you also pickup by watching.

I never liked Quake (not many people played UT and Quake, you chose one or the other for the most part). I can say that I watched some Shootmania coverage last year that I found enjoyable to watch, I simply didn't feel like I could get good enough at the movement to be any good at it, but I appreciated watching people who were good at it, and the concept didn't take long to figure out. Quake was the same thing, I play Clan Arena now and then, but after watching the top-end duels, I grew a new appreciation for it and learned some of the meta play just by watching. Makes me sad that Epic Games can't pull their head out of you-know-where and support their games like ID has.

3 defenders with rockets, an attacker with a rail gun, a pole that can be captured after 45 seconds? What exactly are people missing that makes them not enjoy it cuz they "don't know what's happening"? This is like the most simplistic shooter ever created, I don't know how much less there could possibly be to learn. The only difficult part of this game is learning the odd movement system and teamwork.

try watching a LOL-game for the first time : its CHINESE.
Seriously , even now... i still dont understand. So much going on at the same time.

Still it has 100000views.
The criteria ( beautiful maps ) is bullshit.

Then the whole thread is useless. (It actually is) :0010 :teub:

Sure, caps lock will help.

@ Sephis : clever edit, but don't transform the meaning of my post. Thanks.
he posted in a wrong way , but the meaning is right : we are practicing for over a year for big tournaments and 1 month before u change gameplay(b3) and maps.. the gameplay now IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT in every bit , in every second

opinions are my own and coming from a high tier player

Hi, here we are again.

1) Rust is ugly. Okay, I can on some point understand it. Isn't it possible to re-create Rust to make it look better, if its important for ESWC? But at the same time not change the gameplay(atleast not too much?) Could work somehow I'd say. It's a shame leaving out a map which we all know works, eventhough it is indeed not the best map outthere, but it works better than most of them for sure.

2) CastleCrasher. "Don't fix something that is not broken". That quote should be enough but I will elaborate my point. The old CC was one of the most perfect maps in the game. It had so much variety when it came to tactics. You could play aggressive, defensive, mix it up. Whatever you wanted really. The map was good looking and actually, one of the maps that was fun to spectate. Please, I beg you. Change back to the old CastleCrasher without all the new blocks. Just because the game has new blocks(which is good ofcourse), you don't HAVE to use them all in the map just because you can. I saw your post Papychampy about, non-campy and little maps, no random blocks etc. CC suits those criterias almost perfect. It's been one of the best map in the game, both playing and looking at. Please consider the good old normal CC. I am sure most of the people will agree with me on this matter. Especially if you compare it to the new ones.

3) Paladin2k13. Not much to say, an old map which been in the mappool for a while. Nothing fancy but it does its job. Spectating, gameplaywise. I would prefer the old paladin but the new one atleast has some of your new blocks so. I don't mind really. Keep it.

4) Collided. A classic some people would say. Again, you don't want non-campy gameplays. Then please put back the cage at front so people wouldn't be FORCED to back all the way to pole and camp. Now it's too risky to push out forward. Some people will still play it very defensive but if you really want to remove it. Then maybe, the old Collided but then remove the pillar behind the pole or something. Just an idea. Just that tiny change will do wonders for the map I think. It'll make people play more forward. Conclusion, I dont mind it but put back the cage in front or the map is destroyed. It is actually like CastleCrasher, many varietys you can do there. And totally ok to spectate aswell.

5) Spitfire(I haven't seen or don't know if there is a new version). But again I use my quote, why change something that is not broken? It's appealing to the eye(atleast more than other maps). Also different kind of styles. Keep it.

6) Assaulting with Cake(?) Yeah okay. Change the name for starters, Just akward name imo. I haven't played it enough to make a fair opinion but first thoughts was like..not positive. But it had me thinking, maybe if you do some changes from feedback it can work. I'm not sure though. But I'm not gonna be like, "OMfGGGg it SUcKZ!!!11" without having played it properly. Could have potential, could be terrible. Like I said, I'm not sure yet.

I haven't played the other maps yet so I aint gonna comment on it, so lets move on to other things. I'll update on that later on.

7) Beta3. No no and no. It has too much randomness to it. We've had the discussion before with fast reload and it is too overpowered for attackers. Again, why change something that is not broken? Also walldodges are different which will prevent you from doing cool & useful moves. Cool&useful moves = spectator eyecandy. So please, keep the Beta2.

8) Nerfed smalljump. Well okay, you maybe never intended to have the smalljump in but it was actually a very cool feature and it did speed up the game a lot. It became a skill to use it properly and now it's ruined. I honestly think it is ruined. Bring back the normal smalljump because if you get cornored now you're basically dead directly. With the fast acceleration of the "normal" smalljump you could escape such stuff and make nice plays. I am just trying to think objective. And I am mainly talking about ESWC but it goes for other tournaments aswell. Imagine the grand final of ESWC and someone pulls off a sick escape along with nice shots etc, it would make the crowd go wild. Don't remove and destroy such stuff, it's like shooting yourself in the foot with the game.

I would like a reply from Papychampy or any other nadeo person. I've been constructive, honest and objective.
Please, listen to the community when it comes to this. I beg you!

Also I would like to point out to some people, instead of FLAMING and not contributing with ANYTHING really with such comments, try calm down and post a decent reply. If it is hard for you, try to imagine yourself standing face to face and having a discussion with someone on a mature level. Then post again.

Kind Regards
C. 'fnatic/luxxiz' Losell.

qualifiers are already starting.
Teams want to train for this. So i think we just need to create a poll with all the best maps ever in SM.
There really isnt a lot of time to pimp maps. It takes time , suggestions , altering, discussion + voting.

Most teams want to play the maps they know and already love. (im absolutely not saying that making maps more beuatiful would be a bad thing. Im just thinking about 'time'. :/ )

Oh you still want me to continue mapping? I thought everyone in the elite community already hated me by now, that's what it looks/feels like at least
