That's why I didn't like the stupid games (TM). There are some players in who doesn't really deserve it because they won't give detailed feedback .. anyway, luckily, there are some people who are aware of their task, so it should be okay I guess ..Trackmaniack wrote:For those who are complaining about not being in the beta, remember, that we already have LOTS of screenies, and almost an HOUR's worth of gameplay to watch while we wait--and also remember that this is a beta-TEST, not beta-early-free-game...the beta testers are supposed to be CHECKING the game rigorously for bugs before the release to the rest of us...it's mostly work, and not play...

Let's hope you're right. But watching how the recruitment of beta-testers was made, i believe Nadeo is already pretty confident in the quality of the game in the state of the art. Otherwise, they would not rely on kids (or adults that play kiddy games)...
But, well, TM being itself a kiddy game...

Hopefully the people who know they can't give detailed feedback (for any reason like lack of time, already being part of another beta, etc) won't actually try to get beta keys.
Like Sirc implied, I think the biggest problem with this type of beta-signuppage is that it assumes the honesty of the players who will try and get it... not to be a pessimist but assuming that we're all honest makes you more likely to be victim to the (even if there are only one or two) dishonest people who are here.

The eyes of the plush lobster stared deep into my soul. I picked it up, and then I was a panther.

Re: TrackMania2: Centralised News about the Game
Getting a random sampling for the beta is actually a wise idea. Using only hard-core "power players" will only get hard-core "power players" results. This game will be played by a wide spectrum of people and discovering defects will take a wide spectrum of beta testers.
The trick is, will they all give feedback? Luckily some of the feedback won't need to be submitted by the players as I'm sure some of the beta is to stress test the online servers. Defects will be found (both server and client side) just by playing the game. The hope is that the beta players will submit the client-side defects.
The other trick is, will they play the game at all? How many get beta keys for something, then don't get to play? It's an unfortunate byproduct of any beta player selection process and can't be avoided.
But at least Hylis got to have some fun making his random selection.
I thought it was pretty funny. I had as hard a time as anyone else getting messages posted (thanks to the "Other messages have been posted since. You might want to consider these in light of that." messages the forum likes to throw at us) but oh well. Some of the art ones I found amusing and was able to figure a couple of them out.
Nadeo's ARG isn't, by any means, on the level of Valve's Portal ARGs, but it's cool that Hylis is trying to do something "out-of-the-box." (like the screenshot puzzles when they were first announcing the game.)

It wasn't "funny" when you couldn't simply participate to the game because of these reviews ... ^.^

Re: TrackMania2: Centralised News about the Game
I guess that's why they're called "stupid games".
I'd like to get in the beta, but it's not life or death for me if I don't. We're only 2 months from release. I can understand why the track authors want it early. A head-start for them would be nice for everyone. Maybe NADEO will consider that in their selection process too? (I assume they've been selecting using other means besides just the games in the forums?)

My PC is little bit better than that laptop, I hope I can run TM2 on it.
