I would guess the tracks start out as most with names while creating them, then the ones that make the cut become numbered names based on the order they want them played. I like the idea of "Index numbers followed by a name" IE: A01-Blahblahblah. It satisfies both purposes, however it does make the name longer and less uniform looking.

I'm, too, a bit nostalgic of the TMS campaign names, but it was a different era.
Eyebo is right, this decision was taken because of accessibility reasons. Which adds universal understanding of the solo campaigns, and I think it's a good thing.
@ Demented : I used this pattern for the Platform tracks, but it's not applicable for the other campaigns.
But the tracks are not necessary named when creating a campaign. What is most important is the idea, theme, or specific blocks used, so that the map is recognizable more easily. It's a way of putting a bit of soul in the maps. =)

It shows in the maps.
I like that they are thought out and not just thrown together, or as you say with "a bit of soul in the maps".
It makes a huge difference.
When I make maps I test and retest them over and over and make many, many changes until they have a good feel and flow to them.
Are you (PapyChampy) the main map maker for TM2? Did you create the majority of the maps for Valley?

Though I'm not PapyChampy, I can say with certainty that the answer is yes

For those who don't know PapyChampy. He played TMU/TMUF for years. I first got to know his tracks through the Monthly Track Contest on TMX, which he frequently won due to his innovative Bay tracks. He also won the StarTrack competition which was a joint competition between Nadeo and TMX. And starting with Canyon, he's been working for Nadeo making maps for TM and SM. It's great to have someone FROM the community working on the game. Though he's in good company with people like farfa and sprint, who were also from of the community, and then got hired by Nadeo.

I share this building method. It may take a bit more time, but really pays off in the end. I often build, delete, then rebuild sections until I'm satisfied.
I've built the whole Stadium² campaign, gonna be the same for Valley. =)

Joke: I hope you don't rebuild exactly the same tracks (except A08 perhaps

)
Keep up the great work
we can't wait for Stadium and especially Valley release.
Or will there be a closed Beta for Valley first?
