So if you could do attempts all the time, the "24/7 players" couldn't do more attempts?

Also I got to say I can't stand people who just shouts out that people who are better than them are nolifers or 24/7 players in a way that they aren't normal players. If you can't beat those people on a map, then you're simply worse than them, live with it. I imagine only a few tm2 players uses more than an hour or two on the game every day, if any.

Example:

1 hour playtime normal player without timer:

Train map 20 minutes. Then try offical time 5x times, total time 30 minutes

2 maps in 1 hour, 10 offical times

With timer:

Train map 20 minutes: Play 2 offical times , total time 30 minutes

2 maps in 1 hour, 4 offical times

Nolifer:

Train map 20 minutes, Play 20 offical times, total time 120 minutes. While the timer is on 5 minutes he minimates the game and looks at series or films. Then he go back and play again with the timer being at 0.

Conclusion:

Nolifer can drive more offical times. Yes it is the same without timer, but a normal player can make enough offical times to make his PB without spending too much time. With timer it is not possible.

And don't tell me I can't drive. I was top 10 in TMUF and TOP 30 Driver with only Nations. And that on 2010, top 30 with only stadium on 2009. And there were plenty of good active players out there.

In Stadium beta I have about the same times as the first ones just unoffical. I don't have the time to do 10 offical times on every map to get my unoffical record. Simply as that.

If I could just drive 10 times offical like in TMUF I would already have my unoffical time as offical. This has only 50% to do with skill it is about time as I said.

And again as I said about a year and a half ago:

The Singleplayer-timer introduced a Planets-influence. They have no value anymore as coppers had.

NOBODY needs planets. Everyone has enough and nobody needs it except for some servers and some skins. And most of the players don't buy titles/packs/skins.

The most coppers were spend on singleplayer. Now everyone has enough planets. They are worthless.

I spend over 30 000 planets into servers. I still have 16000 and I don't even know why. And I can only spend them to servers because I don't need them, because they have no value anymore in this game.

Hi

Just playing the new stadium beta.

Some comments

1. Cam 2 is not the same as TMNF and the car is half way up the screen making the lower half of screen pointless. Can we change it to the same as TMNF :)?

2. When inside some structures it's so dark I can't see a thing. Could we have headlights or something ?

@ wiidesire-2:
IIRC Nadeo said they implemented the 5 minute timer because there was too much traffic to their servers with the old copper system. I'd have to guess that it's here to stay.

For TrackMania 2 in a 30 minute span you get 7 official tries.

Any game that revolves around building skill is going to favor players that put in more time. Being upset because Johnny University has an easy schedule and get's to play games 40 hours a week isn't going to improve your consistency.

Now, I'm not trying to say you're opinion is wrong. You are as entitled to dislike the 5 minute timer as much as anyone else likes it. I will say, however, that simply stating you dislike it is going to be far more valid than typing up a skewed, unsound argument.

I will admit, I have an exceptionally low opinion of any and all online, in-game currency systems. The sooner they all rot, the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Actually it is vice versa now. In TMUF, you had a huge advantage if you had lots of coppers. Many low skilled players spammed official times until they finally got a lucky shot which they can never repeat again. I wouldn't say that this has something to do with skill.
Now, with the timer, it's all about consistency. That's also what it takes in competitions, since you have to drive good times consistently without crashing every run. So if you are a skilled and consistent driver, you can drive official world records in 2 or 3 tries (so about 15 minutes of playing).
Surely, your so called "Nolifers" are able to attempt more official tries. But in fact, you can have as many official tries as you can, but you won't be able to achieve a decent ranking on any track if you are not skilled enough.
You say you got decent unofficial records on the new Stadium tracks, but you were not able to drive a good official time "due to lack of time". This might be the case, but maybe also because you lack consistency on these tracks or you played to risky, or whatever(not trying to offend you in any way, but as I said before, you can drive official world records in a couple of tries, depending on the map of course).
So to conclude, the current solo system is rewarding the skilled players and not the ones with millions of coppers.
Just my 2 cents.

And I also like this feeling of "now it's for real" when you have your official run. It's about training and afterwards the real race. :pil If there were no timer restriction I would risk much more in every run and perhaps get a lucky shot - that does not represent my skill if I'm honest.

Of course, players who spend much time in driving have better chances to nail a good time in their official run - but it's the way it should be. I'm a casual player myself and never will reach the top times in the rankings, but that's okay: If I were a 24/7 player, investing a lot of time in training and perfecting my driving, I would be rather annoyed if my effort is not rewarded because of a system that doesn't supports skill. So please keep the timer :)

I doubt this will get seen by the devs, but here goes:

I hate having to use the mouse to get through the menus. As a long term hardcore TMN player I'm so used to being able to breeze through the interface on keyboard or controller having to click 3 times (or click once and tab enter tab tab tab tab etc) for every track is driving me nuts. Bring back the old arrow to navigate and being able to just hit enter 3 times to get going with the gold ghost.

It may sound like a small thing but when you are playing it from the couch on the big screen it's not good.

Otherwise, new tracks are great, I love the handling changes, I do think they went overboard on the shiny paint jobs (and you can't turn them off :( ), interface is a downgrade but all in all a solid sequel.

@AgoutiByte

I second everything.

And pretty please, bring back the pre-Maniaplanet Sounds of the Countdown, as stated elsewhere in this board.

Love everything else.

You actually might be right. The new system is more based on consistency and skill. Yeah I have a lack of consistency because I didn't play TMNF for years :) Great post.

But sadly enough planets are completely useless now and I bet 90% of all players don't even buy title packs with planets and don't know that those even exist.

You can see the planets influence on every server. Once I was on a server and I said to the admin I give you 1k planets if you restart this map. He laughed and said they have enough planets and nobody needs them anymore.

In TMUF if I had spent 1k coppers the admin would go down to me and would offer me an blowjob (just an metaphor!). Sorry for this drastic view but seriously planets influence is already here. Both in Canyon and Stadium.

I already have 20k now just with leveling up and I will never spend them anywhere..^^
